Camera equipment prices: where are they cheaper?

Are handycams and other sorts of camera equipment generally the same price in Australia as in the US or a lot more expensive?

This year it is the same price (combination of US dollar dropping in value, causing US prices to rise relative to Australian ones, and Japanese companies using Australia as a beta test site, so lots of cameras are sold there before they make it to the US market). Historically prices in Oz were double/triple the US price, but that has changed completely, and considering the compatibility issues (voltage is 220V and TVs are PAL, not NTSC) it isn't often worth taking US equipment to Oz.
