The Botanic Gardens gates are closed from Sunset to Sunrise unless they have a function on. If you want to go for a run I'd head to Hyde Park.

In the daily telegraph there was an article about food and wine. Some I haven't heard of but I thought they might be good and interest people.

Queen Chow
Endeavour Tap Rooms (upmarket bar/pub)
Fonzarellis (upmarket bar and dining)
Spice Alley (Chippendale. Variety of Asian restaurants)
Vista Bar
Bistro Moncur
The Smelly Goat

Bistro Moncur has been around for 25 years.

Not as good as it was, has new owners, remains quite high priced.

Spice Alley has the hipster chic but I think the food is better at Hawker Lane.

Queen Chow is another new Merivale place. Fred's in Paddington should also get a mention.

The beers and food are great at Endeavour Tap Rooms. Probably one of the best drink plus food in the city.

The Waughs can ruin any good pub/restaurant.

The new Bistro Rex in Potts Point (only been open a few weeks) is probably the best bistro food I've ever had in Sydney.

I've only been to Spice Alley once. I'm on the train to Cabramatta right now, taking a friend from Paris there for lunch and a bit of a look around. Not expecting many hipsters there ...

It's a great place to go with someone from overseas, especially if they already know Sydney a bit. Hardly saw another Caucasian the whole time (on the train heading home now).

Hurstville, Chatswood, Ashfield, Campsie and Eastwood would fit right in as well then.

Just heard Sepia is moving to Melbourne when their lease ends (end of this year). Their reason for moving is fascinating: to move up the standings in World's 50 best restaurants and they feel that requires moving from Sydney to Melbourne, fwiw. I suppose Quay can't move (they'd lose their best asset, the view).
