Credit card surcharges at Australian hotels

It is common practice for hotels in Australia to add a 'credit card surcharge', typically of 1.5%-2%. Paying in advance through sites such as Expedia, Hotels, Booking, Trivago, Venere etc. avoids this charge.

Yes, has been 1.5% for years for most hotels. Some NZ hotels now charge 1.5% too. Way to avoid is to use card to guarantee and pay cash. Cash will usually cost you more to exchange than IF you have a card giving you true rate of exchange.

Yes. It is common practice for many shops/gas stations/airlines/hotels/others in Australia to add a 'credit card surcharge' of typically of 1.5% ~ 3%. Is allowed by law.
