Grand Final Tickets (Melbourne)for 10/01/2011?
 

Looking to buy two tickets for the 2011 Grand Final at the "G" in Melbourne on October 1st. Realize that club memebers and the general public can buy tickets the Tuesday before. I am from the US and will be in Auckland that Tuesday. Not even sure if I can purchase tickets. Do they have a secondary market like Stubhub to purchase tickets? Any suggestions on how to buy tickets is greatly appreciated.

We arrive the day before the game staying at the Hilton across the street. Looking forward to seeing the Grand Final parade that day. It is absolutely at the top of our "bucket list" of things to do. It is not a coincidence that we are there during the date the game is being played.

Several years ago while visiting Melbourne I attended a footy game at the "G", with several fellow FT'ers no less. It was a great experience. Since then have caught footy games on ESPN3.com, read about footy on afl.com.au and even saw a few games in Boston played by the Boston Demons.

Am from Boston in the US. If someone can guide me in the right direction to obtaining tickets, my son and I will be most appreciative. In this part of the world the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankey baseball teams are a great sports rivalry. It so happns that I have weekend season tickets in Boston for the Sox and certainly would love to work something out to show my appreciation, whether it be next or several years down the road for you helping me out.

Secondary (black) market is for practical purposes illegal
General public cannot buy tickets: only (some) footy club members
Some clubs in conjunction with business sell "hospitality packages": a breakfast, lunch or dinner (with a ticket) for a 4 figure sum. They are not allowed to sell the grand final ticket over face value.

I had seen the following http://www.afl.com.au/tickets/tabid/14715/default.aspx, which is for rounds prior to the Grand Final for the general public. Alas I will not be in Melbourne for that time period.

I will certainly see the parade the day before and ceremonies at Fed Square after the game. I could end up watching the game from the Executive Lounge of the Hilton across the street. It would be so close and far at the same time.

I'd go to a pub over watching it in the Exec lounge.

We got tickets for the 100th anniversary grand final thru a travel agency package from New Zealand. I forget what was included in the package, but it was a wonderful experience.

Ah, spoken like a true member who wants to appear like he enjoys the game like the commoners do ;)

^ Much easier to soak up a bit of atmosphere. Should be a good experience, providing Collingwood doesn't win.

At home I enjoy watching local sports at the neighborhood pub. I have even seen a Grand Final game at a local pub. It was a great experience.

I will arrive the day before the game, so I won't have much time to locate a pub. Can anyone suggest several pubs to watch the game and I would love to try one of them. I will be staying at the Hilton by the G.

Geelong certainly gave Collingwood a beating Friday night. They beat the Pies twice this year. So it is a whole new season now. Can Collingwood make it twice in a row?

A bad experience would be another tie game.:td: Watching last year and then to my amazement the overtime was another game the next week. How interesting. I would not be in Melbourne for the next game.

The reality is that standard club members will probably not get access to an AFL Grand Final ticket through normal means.

I have a 22 year long AFL membership and I am not guaranteed; although I have at least an 85% chance. (100% if Hawthorn makes it)

Well we did see the parade this afternoon from office building on Collins Street.

Walked across the street in mid afternoon to the G. There were about roughly 80 or so people waiting to buy tickets. One person indicated that we would not get tickets even if we waited because we are non-members.

Been raining and is 90 per cent chance of rain tomorrow.

As noted above some negative publicity about potential unsold tickets.

Those people are Melbourne Cricket Club members. More members than seats members available (10,000). The MCC do not pre sell seats: walk up only. According to the radio the MCC queue was 1 km (2/3 mile) at 7:30 am

Thanks for the update. Will take a walk over now. Then take a look at the casino viewing and probably back to the Hilton to watch the game.

Hilton states that we will not have access to the Executive lounge until Monday, as am Gold. Checking in on Friday they stated they were filled to capacity.

More Geelong fans than Collingwood fans.

There will be people selling tickets outside the gates. And even more trying to buy.
Collingwood have have the most paid members

Actually the MCC do pre-reserve seats for their full members. There is a ballot for approx 13000 seats.

Some miss out on the ballot or simply prefer to queue in any case for the remaining 10,000 seats.
