I'm glad NW/DL chose to differentiate their offer from the others. If it had been more of the same, then there would not have been any net benefit to any airline.
It seems this approach is better at satisfying the existing Elites, will really reward those paying more for airfares, and even award them more with the triple miles over the competition.
For those after a good cheap deal for the promotion, go to CO, or UA/AA says NW/DL. Let the competition take the lower fare payers, and get the cream who will pay more for the triple. Doesn't help me personally, since I'll still be getting only the single multiple with NW/DL - but no worries.
