With the program, I could probably fly enough by June to earn premier status, but it would provide me with no additional benefits than I already have on NW/DL. Why would I fly domestic economy on UA when I can fly first class on NW/DL? Why would I fly internationally on UA when I would have no additional benefits than what I already have on NW/DL with a network that has exploded in new routings with the merger.
Since NW/DL's elite benefits are so much richer, I hope they won't match the UA promo. I earn my status the hard way and I don't want to see the elite ranks swelling with infrequent flyers competing with me for upgrades.
I've been rethinking how rich NW Platinum status is since upgradeable HNL fares are not affordable (for me), UA's upgradeable int'l fares tend to be more affordable, and for NYC folks, UA's p.s. flights, while nothing special at all in coach, are quite comfy in business. Check out the 1k benefits. (Stupid that they call it 1k, but anyway...)

Oh NW elites are SO much richer:
25% bonus vs. 50% bonus for SE since DL took over.
100% bonus vs. 125% bonus for PE since DL took over.
Partner award fee once the programs are totally merged (NW does not have this fee).
$50/change to award reservations for PE's
I could go on but point is made.

That's just what I posted on DL board. I've been hesitating...hoping things feel better with the merger. If DL doesn't - then I have no reason not to move to CO.
Hasn't the environment changed? I read a lot about companies cutting travel - perhaps it's not really true?
Yes, it has, but you're missing my point. It doesn't matter!
If I make PE without the 2xEQM promotion, then the minute one other person makes it because of the promotion (regardless of how many there were last year), its more diluted than it could have been (without the promotion).
By definition, 1001 PEs out of the total flying population is more diluted than 1000.

Despite the fact that CO is in many ways much better than DL, I have heard some nasty rumors about how hard it is to get an upgrade over there. I have to say that I am at 100% upgrades on NW/DL this year. I am not looking forward to a huge dilution of PE/PM status because of some promotion. I seem to remember reading a lot of comments about how upset some FF's get when some certain AMEX holders were able to earn status without even flying. A 2XEQM promotion is just another form of this.
Granted, if I were out to get quick status on a secondary airline, I would welcome such a promotion, but being PE, I am a little biased about it happening so close to home. So I really do not want the promo in my yard.

Much more than rumors. Particularly out of EWR, upgrades range from hard to impossible (transcons) to score. My wife, as a Plat on mid-to-upper tickets used to get upgraded maybe 40% of the time ex-BOS.

Why aren't you out for secondary status? I'm considering trying for something with one of the others myself. If DL matches, such that I can easily get Plat with them too, then my weekends may be busy for the next couple of months.

I triple-read CO's T&C and nowhere does it state that the double EQM should be on newly purchased tickets, this is different from the AA and UA offers. Or am I misreading anything?

You read it all correctly -- AA + UA have one approach and CO has a different approach.
