Same flight number - different segments?

Just wondering if this is considered a separate EQS or the same? In booking, iterinary and receipt, it lists as separate flights. However, it has the same flight number. Also coming in NRT, you need to get down, clear and board the flight again. Seats may be different (depending on your reservation) and passengers are not the same because since some passenger is flying through NRT only or on to another flight, and other passengers board the flight in NRT as well coming from other flights.

Sorry, but both EQS and EQM accrual will be the same as what you would earn for an MNL-DTW non-stop, so you'll only earn 1 EQS for the two legs.

From the WP "Earning Flight Miles" rules (my bolding):
Mileage accrual is based on the nonstop mileage between your origin and destination for each segment of the trip. A segment is defined as all travel under a single flight number. On connecting flights that require a change of plane and flight number, credit is given for each segment of the trip.

Edit: Ooops, noticed my link doesn't work right--looks like NW's site is using some kind of a frame. To find the rules, click on the link above, then click on "Terms & Conditions" on the left-hand side of the screen. From there, click on "Earning Flight Miles" in the main part of the screen.

Just experienced an exception to this. Flew TPA-MEM-MSP on flight 1211 two nights ago (with a stop in Memphis, and no change in plane). Instead of receiving credit just for TPA-MSP (and. ironically, there is a non-stop TPA-MSP flight that left later and arrived in MSP earlier than my MEM routing!) I got eqms, individual segment credits, and elite bonus miles for separate segments for TPA-MEM and MEM-MSP, although it was one flight number.

The reason must be this: I booked the multi-segment routing at a point in time back when the flights had DIFFERENT flight numbers. A later schedule change consolidated the TPA-MEM-MSP routing to the same flight number (and it was indeed the same aircraft, arriving and departing from the same gate in MEM, with the same crew). But my reservation at nwa.com continued to show separate segments, and when my upgrade came the seat selection option gagged, so I had to call the elite line and even they had problems getting the system to confirm me in the same seat on both legs of the flight. When I printed my boarding pass in TPA it also continued to show the flight as separate segments. I did make SURE to leave the aircraft and have the boarding pass scanned again at MEM for the second segment (to be safe, et. al.) - - and that is how it posted.

The disadvantage in not taking the nonstop flight that left TPA later and got to MSP earlier was that no meal was served on the chopped-up two-segment connection (and it took longer). But the advantages to taking the 1-stop flight were:
* It was cheaper;
* I got more miles and EQM's;
* The row-mate in 1C did not object when I asked her if would be o.k. for me to eat the half-slab of Interstate pork ribs (with beans and slaw) that I picked up in MEM; frankly, this was a first class meal that beat any chicken or pasta that might have been wheeled onto the direct flight (though I did pine for chocolate cheesecake!).

I once booked LGA-ATL-RNO on DL with a somewhat long layover in ATL specifically to avoid taking a "direct" flight from LGA-RNO (via ATL).

The LGA-ATL flight I'd booked ended up getting canceled, and I was put on the next flight out, which happened to be the first leg of the "direct" flight. I was credited for LGA-RNO straight-line miles, but I emailed DL asking for original routing credit, and got the full miles!
