Yep. When I look at the slim roster of benefits from this merger, and the unhappy reaction of NW's best customers (not to mention the inability of NW and DL to address or improve upon this lack of enthusiasm despite long forewarning), I suspect "New Delta" will soon be taught in business schools as a case study in disaster.
I fly out of DTW and have been a NW elite in the past.
Two years ago, I switched my earnings, and as much travel as possible to Delta, although I still fly on a lot of NW metal. Why the switch? Newer and cleaner planes, much more friendly staff and better availability for both levels of awards (in my experience). One drawback? Fewer upgrades for silvers (again, in my experience).
If you give Delta a chance, I'd be very surprised if you're unhappy within 2-3 years.
My bet is on CVG. MEM is key for shipping / logstics. CVG was just recently hubbed and is a craphole... MEM is close but not as bad. I would say CVG first to go, MEM shortly behind.

I was a SM silver once and I swore after the horrible service over the phone, horrible service on board, and horrible award selections, I would never return to skypiles. I guess my time with NW is done.
I now fly out of SFO/SJC. I'm thinking about switching to UA... or at least, I may stop once I hit 75kEQM on NW, forget about the SWUs, and pick up 100K on UA. I will at least get comped to Premier Exec, so it won't be too bad for those intervening months between P.E. and 1K.
I'm just wondering if I should wait it out a bit to see if UA has any special offers to entice former NW/DL members, such as actually comping 1K for people who have 100K+ EQMs on NW/DL for the current year...

Oh c###
"Ladies and gentleman, fasten your seatbelts immediately [harsh buffeting as spoilers fully deployed at max permissible IAS] We are performing an emergency landing at...
ATL.
We will not be departing from this airport for some time...ever. We sincerely regret the necessity to auction this nice redtail 744 that you've come to enjoy riding in so much.
Please surrender your WP membership cards on disembarkation. You may collect your shiny and value-free SkyBiles cards in exchange. Proceed to Gate FU for rembarkation on a DL M88. And don't expect an UG. Don't even expect decent EQM. Please don't call the Elite line, there's no point if you're a DL PM customer."
Now what? I'm nonplussed. I'll have to wait for the CO/UA shakeout that follows before I make any more decisions.
I'll keep my handle.
Thanks all NWA crews and employees. You guys set the standard.
NWA made me love to fly. This is a very sad day. I think about everything we will lose going to SkyMiles and I will need to seriously decide whether or not to stick around.
Spoke with a FA on my MEM-SHV flight tonight, and she had just been told about the merger prior to boarding our 7:40pm departure. She wasn't emotional about it and said, "this just an announcement. i'm waiting to hear from the DoJ."

As a former NWA PE and a current UA 1K, I can tell you that will never happen. UA does not comp out 1K. There are way too many benifits above 1P. UA rarely matchs 1P (though in my case they did as a 90K NWA flyer) now a days.
Greetings all - as all of you are, i'm saddened by the demise of the NW name. It will be strange to see Delta all over metro airport in the coming months.
Anyhow - what are your thoughts on what the new fleet will look like. Will Delta still take delivery of the 787 as the "new" NA lauch customer. Will we see all CRJ-200's replace the DC-9's - - or will this be the demise of "MD" aircraft entirely out of the new fleet.
