Notice how awards are listed as "starting at", the mention of how "travel to all destinations within region may not be available at minimum mileage rate", and the pricing for business class awards starting at 120,000 miles for US to Europe in business class.

... so true... I've got my WBC tix booked for next spring already... spending down my miles, getting awards confirmed... at least I'll have something tangible I can enjoy vs. "that award is not available, but it is for 240,000 miles"

Very interesting article by an American Enterprise Institute analyst, posted April 25, suggesting DL/NW has all the makings of another HP/US operational Waterloo, only on a grander scale... not very encouraging...

Effects of due diligence?
What does all the due diligence that must be underway do to confidentiality, trade secrets and competitive advantage with this circle---- that's happening? How does that work? Seems everyone must know every stripe in its competitors' underwear, even if a deal isn't done, when the music stops.
I was thinking of doing a weekend / weeknight project of writing a few congress people with concise one page snail mail letters regarding my feelings about the merger, but my question is: which people in Congress should I be writing to get the most impact? I think Sen. Charles Schumer (chair of Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy & Consumer Rights) is one good target, but who are other good people to write?
I reside in Nancy Pelosi's district, but I doubt she'll be motivated or interested in doing much unless anything comes up for debate in the full house.
p.s. my original idea was to put this comment into it's own thread (since other people might want to write letters as well); if the mods agree with me, feel free to split this out.

Agree re Schumer. Disagree with what you say re Pelosi. While you might get a back bencher who can be interested only in milk policy, or oil, she's got to have her finger on the pulse of everything that's going on. It's the nature of the position. And write to Oberstar. He's obviously deeply involved in air transportation, and one of the principals in this action probably has a lot of, um, communication with him.

I don't expect this to be a major issue. There are very few things that the compeitiors don't already know about each other. It's a very transparent industry. That's not too much that will be learned from each other.

Any U.S. politician represents his/her constituency; in the case of New York this includes the Wall Street banks and hedge funds that have their hands in a lot of the Delta/NW financing.
The merged Delta/NW will be huge; maybe too big to fail and welll-positioned for taxpayer funded bailouts if needed.

Or at least special consideration/allowances vis antitrust practices when it, too, starts to play the Chapter 11 game, a couple of years down the line.

There is an active thread on the DL board concerning this. New reward chart?
Needless to say, there are many who consider this a further devaluation of the SkyMiles program.

And there are others who have successfully booked 90k awards since this chart was published, and are level headed enough to realize that it is probably a clerical error.
