Beginning in August, we are reducing the number of long trips in certain fleet types and changing the way we build trips to and from large East Coast cities. This will minimize the impact on the entire system when delays occur due to bad weather and air-traffic control congestion.
Would that be like reducing flights to NYC by sticking a widebody on? Or instead of two DC-9's, fly a 757?

Interesting memo, provides more fuel to the fire that we have been seeing on the board that wide bodies are coming online domestically. Perhaps, they will put the 747 into play. Also, note with the cancellation of the 757 from DTW-FRA, wonder if that would reassign that 757 to domestic use which would make for a sweet domestic upgrade as well. Being a half glass full kinda guy, here's hoping that for both NW and its pax that with with adversity comes the possibilities of opportunity.
As of Aug. 1, all furloughed pilots wishing to return to Northwest will have received their official training date, producing some of the highest numbers of reserve pilots in recent history.

Perhaps they'll put it on a LAX/SFO/PDX/SEA-HNL run. That would be kinda cool.
too many flights are being delayed/cancelled for maintenance issues. not much help to have pilots when planes can't leave ther ground for safety reasons. If they are brining back older planes this cant get better only worse. I am hopeful this is a "summer" issue and things will be back to normal within the next 30 days.
