We are traveling to IAD to CDG on Icelandair, with a 1hr 30min layover at KEF.
Is this enough time to switch to the other Icelandair flight at a leisurely walk, or do we need to slip on our running shoes? I am assuming that luggage will be checked through to CDG.

No running involved. Your only bottleneck may be the lines at immigration and transfer security which can be a bit long in the morning, but nothing that will be a problem with a 90 minute connecting time.
Remember that TA transfer business is where Icelandair makes its money. Flights arrive from the US and Canada in the morning, leaves to Europe an hour or two later. Come late afternoon the processes reversing. O/D traffic at KEF is not insignificant, but TA transfer business is so important that the terminal is really set up to enable smooth transfers for connecting passengers.
Yes, if you come from outside the Schengen region, you will go through Customs and Immigration at KEF. You have to go through security again before boarding your onward flight, but it's pretty fast and efficient. However, you don't have to go through Immigration again at your final destination if it's in the Schengen region, as France is.
