Survivor: I Fell Two Miles Strapped To A Row Of Seats

(On 7/2/09 CNN Europe published a first-person account by Juliane Koepcke, the sole survivor of LANSA Flight 508 which crashed in a Peruvian rainforest on December 24, 1971.)

As the plane broke into pieces in midair, Koepcke was thrust out into the open air:

"Suddenly there was this amazing silence. The plane was gone. I must have been unconscious and then came to in midair. I was flying, spinning through the air and I could see the forest spinning beneath me."

read it yesterday-very graphic, eerie, scary and also simply down right miraculous.

Amazing

Truly an amazing story. The impact is somewhat reduced because of the long time past. After reading it, it struck me: How awful would it have been to survive that crash, then die from an infection of a wound while walking back?

That's some kind of adventure no one in his right mind can even fathom.

Terrifying.

Although I'm not sure I'd describe a broken collarbone and deep gashes on my arms and legs as mere "minor" injuries.

I swear I saw a movie about this on the late, late show about 20 years ago. I remember it because it was about a young woman who survived a plane crash, wandering around the Amazon with an infected arm/shoulder with the maggots (which is why I remembered it - ugh). It was a foreign film, more like a documentary, probably made in Europe......or was it so late that I was just dreaming ??? Has anyone else seen this ?

Compared to what happens to most people who fall out of aircraft that high up, I'd say they qualify. I'll take them over the usual outcome any day.

Truly incredible. Did she ever fly again in the following years?
