AFAIK, Boeing is using composite parts for the 1st time and they are making whole sections as one single part. Airbus is using the same technique for quite some years now is not daring to make the parts as big as Boeing does.
Boeing had to push back first flight because of unforeseen stresses on the aircraft where the wing joins to the body.
What is particularly worrisome, Wood says, is that Boeing's computer models did not predict the stress.
then this is really worrying. This sounds very much like a major design flaw which might easily trigger major re-designs of the whole airplane. Additionally, this has the potential to undermine the confidence in the engineering of the airplane as well.
Thats is real bad news for Boeing and the whole aircraft industry.
Yes... but, lets remember that the A380 also suffered many many delays, or...?
The A380 has not experienced so many "announced" delays. Airbus delayed the plane for quite some time as soon as it became aware that there were major problems. Boeing is delaying the 787 every few month by a few month.
A few years ago, there was the term "vapor-ware" in the IT industry - referring to software being announced but never appeared in real life. If Boeing goes on like this, we easily might see "vapor-planes".
BTW: Does anyone know from which date on is the delay larger than the originally planned project time? I assume that there is still some time left, but one never knows.

First plane in service was originally planned for May 2008 so the plane will be 2,5 to 3 years late.
if you will send me out to seattle, i shall be glad to straighten them up.
Great news for 787 Dreamliners are flying around end of late-2009. Boeing will expecting deliveries the 787 to airlines in 4Q 2010 timelines. Right now, they are fixing the problems with the wings. So hopefully 787 will be ready into the skies for first time. I will find out any more specific info from Boeing. Boeing will have to be reinforced the wings of 787. It should have no problems from 787 for this time. Right now, it is in progress to be completion done the ground tests.

Unfortunately, we've heard this before. Several times.
I'm sure it will fly eventually, and will at some point be a fine aircraft that the airlines and the traveling public are happy with, but I won't believe schedule promises until I'm walking down the jetway.
My guess is the 748. Just seems like there's less likely to be problems cropping up with that when they get to testing, since it doesn't have all the . I know when I took the tour last month the first 748 body was looking like it was getting pretty close to being ready to roll off the line.
