A Survey of Room Rates by Hotels.com Reveals New York's and Las Vegas' Startling 30% Drop in Average Room Rates

Some interesting assertions: despite the recent plunge in its hotel price structure, New York City is still the most expensive hotel city in the U.S., with average room rates, during the first six month of 2009, of $186. Probably because of that, Las Vegas -- with average room rates of $82 -- has surpassed New York as the nation's favorite destination for U.S. travelers. The nation's five most popular cities are, therefore, Las Vegas, New York, Orlando, Chicago, and San Francisco.
Las Vegas hotels are always much cheaper than other major cities. Routinely, 5* can be had for less than $100/night, especially on weekdays. I just had to spend $279 in SF for an over-sized broom closet.

Most of the LV 5 star hotels are on the busy strip. Also most cities have much quieter rooms without the noise, hustle, card-flappers, traffic and the ever present hookers almost everywhere.

What floor are you staying on to hear the card-flappers?

I was in room 2534 (25th floor). The card flappers were every 4-6 feet on the Las Vegas Blvd sidewalks (ground level). The hookers were approx every 50 feet it seemed (also ground level).

Well...close the window, then.
Seriously, I'm with you on the noise and litter at street level, but I've never had a problem 25 floors up at Bellagio, or Wynn, or PH, or TI.
