Just order a regular car service. It'll be roughly the same price as LyftLine/UberPool (much cheaper if there is a surge) and there's no risk that you'll have to make stops along the way to pick up or drop off other people.

I'm looking to hire a car to drive my girlfriend from JFK in December.

I want to pre-pay for the car, since I'm not going to be near our hotel at the time she is arriving at the hotel. I'd like a service where she won't have to present a credit card or sign anything - I just want a dude to meet her at baggage claim, handle her bags, take her to the car, and drop her off at the hotel. Everything else needs to be handled ahead of time.

Any recommendations?

Most mid-range and higher car services should let you do this without too much trouble. One that's reliable and not crazy expensive (I have a friend who uses them for a lot of personal trips) and has a good website is Legends. The reservation form on their website allows you to specify that you are prepaying. I'm not sure exactly what happens if the tolls or parking charges end up being different than what you put in the form, so you might call and ask how they handle that.

Note that you'll pay a premium for meet-and-greet service at the baggage claim, and it usually takes longer to get out of the airport since they'll have to walk to the car and pay for parking before hitting the road. But it's a nice way to welcome someone to town.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I ended up using 777 because they had a $6 coupon. My only complaint was I had a hard time reaching and hearing them when I called from baggage to find out where to meet them. Then the driver was supposed to call when he got to the meeting place but didn't so I stood out there longer.
Still beats a taxi so thanks again.
Using uber in the city was a disaster. None of the drivers I got knew their way around --they were all fresh off the boat. One couldn't find me when I was standing on Fifth Ave, gave him the # and the 2 cross streets. I finally told him to stay put and walked 2 blocks to meet him.

Never heard of them but pretty terrible Google reviews.

Is it important that you all ride in the same vehicle? If not, I'd just book a pair of minivans from Dial7, Carmel or Quickride. The all-in cost will be comparable or a little less than that $165 quote (which probably doesn't include tip or toll) and you should have decent service.

Another option might be a private van from Supershuttle. I strongly recommend against Supershuttle's shared van service, but a private van for a group like this might make sense, and I think the cost might actually be less.

supershuttle's private van is coming out to be cheaper ($115) but the only reason i was leaning towards a limo is that we have 3 small kids in the party who are visiting ny for the first time....just thought it might be fun for them to ride in a limo....

What is Carmel asking for tolls (itemized) from Manhattan (W of Central Park) to EWR?

Not sure you'll get them to itemize tolls. Last week it was $18 using the Holland Tunnel from Manhattan to EWR.

I'm using EWR a lot more now that United left JFK. I used to always go with UberX, but now that the flat $65 one-way price is gone, I'm exploring my options.

UberX at EWR really annoyed me last night. I was assigned an NJ driver who wanted me to meet him at the departure level since "the cops will give [him] a ticket at arrivals." With a stroller and two big suitcases I wasn't about to hoof it back up a level, so I canceled the trip after he refused to meet me at arrivals. Fortunately I got a NY driver (i.e. TLC licensed) the second time, who had no problems with a pickup at arrivals.

UberX rates from EWR have dropped significantly: https://newsroom.uber.com/new-jersey/ewr/

Starting today, you can get from the plane to your final destination with a tap of the app for half the price. We’re dropping uberX and uberXL fares from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) by an average of 50%!
Sounds like fares to EWR are unchanged, but it appears UberX is down to ~$45 to Midtown.

Certainly good news, but I'd imagine one still has to deal with the NJ UberX drivers who aren't allowed to pick up at arrivals.

I will never use either of them again, so that gives you my opinion about them With the fare drop, just take UberX, but make sure to go up to the departure drop-off level to get picked up.
