Well, I see a whole host of stuff on AirBnB (whole apartment) in Manhattan for ~$3000k for the month of October. Some look half-decent, and at least as big as a hotel room, although you're not going to be getting daily maid service.

We often stay at AirBnB rentals in Astoria for around $100. Convenient subway service to Manhattan.
