You might want to avoid lower Manhattan today if possible (unless you want to participate in the march). There's going to be a march from Zuccotti Park to the NYSE, then up and down Wall Street all day. At 3 PM, people will occupy various subway stations across the city, and take the subway to Foley Square. Then they will march across the Brooklyn Bridge, and then back to Zuccotti Park. There already are thousands of people at Zuccotti Park awaiting the first march.

I entirely respect and agree with the message of these folks. Don't bail out banks and executives with bonuses while the little guy has no shoulders to lean on plus must pay his/her taxes for the big guys.
Unfortunately, in the US unlike Europe - majority of society is concerned with their own mortgage and wealth so until the protest includes shutting down Wall St, Government, etc. affecting their financial bottomline/operations. That is the only catalyst to causes reaction by the big wigs vs. currently which is just noise outside their windows.
There is a difference between protest and a revolution.

aren't what the occupiers want somewhat socialistic? I'd imagine people would go ballistic if you call them socialists though.

The word "socialist" is really only pejorative in right wing circles, despite attempts by some on the right to make it synonymous with tyranny.

The occupiers I've met or read are all ardent leftists of one thread or another who most certainly believe that more socialist policies than the status quo would be an improvement. Probably only a few self-identify as capital-S Socialists (although those folks are definitely there, too, just as there are extreme no-government libertarians at Tea Party rallies).

For the record I consider myself much more of a centrist (I believe that the goal of government should be to find the right balance between liberal justice libertarian freedom), but I appreciate many of the arguments of the Occupy folks.

Agreed. Please limit discussions in this thread to travel notices and disruptions in NYC.

Please understand that this does NOT mean that members cannot share and discuss their thoughts about the protests and/or underlying issues (and I do appreciate the fact that everyone has been quite civil in this thread). We just ask everyone to carry on such discussions in the forum that has been established for them, OMNI P/R, where a search for "occupy" will return several current discussions.
