Opinions of NYC Affinia Hotels Please

A two week stay in NYC coming up has me thinking about staying at one of the five Affinia hotels because of the large rooms.

Anyone have info on this group?

Which Mahattan property of the five is the best.

Thanks

I am familiar with two of their properties. I have stayed at The Benjamin many times and think it's a great hotel.

Just this past Tuesday, I visited a friend who was staying in a suite at their E. 34th Street property. I was very impressed. The room was a suite, though; I don't know how large the regular rooms are. But based on what I saw of the lobby and the room, I definitely would consider this property. (Granted, 34th between 3rd and Lex isn't the most glamorous NYC address at which to stay, but it's certainly convenient.)

And the independently operated, in-house restaurant at the Affinia Dumont (the East 34th Street property) is decent. I've lunched at the "Barking Dog" many times.

My folks stayed in the Affinia Gardens once and they had a large room with a kitchen. Seemed pretty quiet and nice.

The room I was in last week had a little kitchenette, too, as did most of the rooms at The Benjamin when I used to stay there.

I've stayed a few times at the Affinia Manhattan, on 7th avenve catty-corner from Penn Station. The rooms are large - positively huge by NYC hotel standards - and have kitchens. Great staff. Old-style decor, reminded me of Grandma's house. Rooms facing the street can be loud, as emergency vehicles cruise down 7th avenue, sirens blaring, all night long.

It's a good option if you need space and a kitchen (fully, but sparsely equipped). The only downside is that the furniture/beds are kind of low end and not all that comfortable (or used to be - maybe someone can confirm).

Your information is dated. At least at the two properties with which I am familiar, The Benjamin and the Affina on E. 34th, the beds are modern and very comfortable.
