The development department released a new feature today called 'Trending Threads'. You can find Trending Threads next to the forum tools in the top right corner of each forum.
The tool looks at all threads in a given forum over the last 24 hours and displays the ten most active threads during that period. The goal is to offer a simple way to highlight threads that have shown the most activity over the last day.
Please let us know if you find it useful. We will tweak the algorithm over time to find ways to improve relevancy while in beta.
im glad im not crazy, noticed before this was posted
i dont think there is really anything that can be done, but the one thing i noticed is that it has an impact on where "thread tools" is at least for me, in terms of when im going for "mark this forum read"

Thx for the feedback!
We don't want it in the way of other tools. If you can email me a screenshot of what you are seeing at admin@flyertalk.com I will see if we can address it.
you put "trending threads" in between "forum tools" and "search this forum"
i might not have a muscle memory problem if you flipped "trending threads" and "forum tools" which would put "forum tools" back in its original position next to "search this forum"

Heh, I had exactly the same feedback. Don't move my cheese...er, forum tools button!
I personally would like the ability to turn it off. I will never use it as-is, as I always browse through the titles of all of the threads since my last visit.
It might be more interesting to have it at a different level. Like if I'm browsing an airline forum, maybe it shows the top 10/20 threads from other airline forums. You'd then have to be careful to not have too many threads from any one forum showing up in that list.
I want to keep in touch with Mileage Run Deals, AA, and DL daily. For example, I want to see the AA DEQM thread when it ever finally comes out. The trending threads looks like any "real big deal" will show itself. Now I just need to get all my favorite forums handed to me on the silver platter of a daily email, so when I don't have time for FlyerTalk, I can still get the real important threads...
