Route 28/O'Brian Highway Closure on Nov 6, 2010 for Construction

For the past few weeks, a MassDOT sign has been flashing a message about Route 28/O'Brian Highway closing on November 6. As usual, details are sketchy. Since many folks use this road to get to Logan Airport, Boston and points outside the city, I figured I'd do a little homework.

Here is the lowdown. O'Brian Highway Southbound will be closed from the intersection of Land Boulevard to Leverett Circle by Storrow Drive for about one month to rehab the Craigie Dam Drawbridge. Basically, this is the entire area occupied by the Museum of Science.

The northbound roadway will remain open. Traffic heading to I-93, Storrow Drive and Logan Airport will be diverted toward City Square in Charlestown across the Gilmore/Prison Point Bridge. Those heading into Boston will be detoured down Land Boulevard to either the Longfellow Bridge or Memorial Drive. Pedestrian and bike traffic will not be affected.

For locals, sorry for the long winded names instead of the usual shorthand (MoS, Storrow, Mem Drive, 93, etc). Wanted to make the info useful for non-residents. More details at the following links:
