So what you're saying is that I should be tipping the manager instead...

I would be keeping the car out because it is cheaper than two one way rentals.
Shoudlnt be an issue. The screen will pop up at the rental booth that you have a car out already, but a quick explanation and you will be fine. Keep in mind, if you decline LDW and are using your credit card coverage, most cards will only "cover" one rental at a time. Your ins co is probably the same. Better check it first.

We dont encourage our employees to accept tips and most wont. There is nothing wrong with approching the Emerald Greeter or a employee and asking if there is anything coming through. Our staff are there to keep our customers happy. Bear in mind, depending on the size of the operation, it may not always be possible, but by all means ask. I have always encouraged are staff to do what they can within reason to take care of our EC and EE members.

No I haven't disappeared, I wasn't able to participate much while I was working in Honolulu...I had nearly No internet access while in Hawaii.
I'm back in PHX and have been busy as heck during our season here. I'm quite glad Rentalguy is helping pick up the slack. The nice part is, since he's a manager he's got internet access all day and can stay on top of everyone's questions better than I can...hence faster responses. That's All Good for everyone here. But I'm beginning to feel I'm no longer needed...you all found a new "hookup."
I'll be lurking...and toss in my "two cents" from time to time. I'm still your eyes and ears for PHX of course.
And Welcome Rentalguy! I'm the Pam they make Reference to from time to time.
HI Pam.
Thank you for the welcome. I'm sure you can offer better insights from a front line perspective especially since you work at our 3rd largest operation in North America!! Look forward to "working" with you on this forum!
I have a reservation for a convertible through National for OGG May 1-8. I am an Emerald Club member and choose to rent through National because I thought I could add my husband as an additional driver for free based on the following which is posted on the Emerald Club benefits page
"Authorized Drivers
Free (in the United States and Canada) - An Emerald Club member's spouse, immediate family member living with him/her, business partner, employer, or fellow associate who has an assigned corporate contract with National and drives the car for business purposes. All other additional authorized driver situations are subject to a daily charge.
"
I called National to confirm this and now I am confused. Two seperate National representatives told me I have to pay $9.99 per day. An Emerald Club representative told me my husband can drive as long as he has a license and doesn't need to even be present when I pick up the car. I am kind of reluctant to have him drive and not be on the contract. I pay a fee to my credit card company for primary rental car insurance and it covers any driver on the contract. So if he is not on the contract, I am not sure he is covered. But I don't want to pay $9.99 per day. How does the free driver benefit work and is there any way to add my husband as a driver for free?

If you are an EC member (whih you are) there is no additional driver fee for your spouse and the rep is correct, that from National's standpoint, your spouse doesnt have to be listed on the RA. Your credit card company typically follows the rental agency terms, however if your card co. specifically needs him listed to cover you, it should be no problem from National's end. Have the agent add him on, and they'll waive the addl driver fee. As long as you both have the same address on your licenses, you'll be fine. If you dont, then they will charge the fee. Worst case scenario, If they charge you the fee (I doubt it, as the agent would have to be poorly trained for that to happen), call the Emerald Club cust service line after the fact and they will credit you the fee.
Thanks for the response. I will ask them to add him when we pick up the car. I hope they don't insist on charging the fee, but if they do it sounds like I might be able to get it taken care of later.

Sidebar here...this Should go without saying but you do need to go to the counter to do your rental as they really can't do this at the gate with a normal counter by-pass Emerald Club Rental. Unless you have a Newbie Agent at the rental counter they know to hit NO on the screen to charge for your husband to drive. If you have any issues at the counter just ask for a Supervisor or a Manager...but I'm sure you won't have to go to this extreme. Also if the agent says..."Oh you can let him drive, just say you prefer to have him LISTED as a driver...as you've had problems in the past when you weren't with him in the car...and you've found this saves potential headaches." It's a white lie but some Rental Agents just don't get it and need an explaination.
It's a common occurance for us when an EC member is on Govt Biz and going to Luke AFB here in town as all members driving a car must be listed on the contract to go in and out the gate at the base. They can all drive for free but the gate insists there be a paper contract and all drivers be listed. Even someone on orders by themselves must still have a contract...they can't do counter by-pass...they at least have to use the kiosk and have a physical contract with their name on it.

Now if someone would just COMMIT to the Amusement Park heremaybe we'd have a chance!!! (Hint Hint) Perfect opportunity to make it a combo water park/amusement park, open all year, awesome weather. If you build it...they WILL come...Heck they are already here...and more will follow!

Howdy Pam & rentalguy - I'd like to pick your brain on another query: as you both know, I'm on a long term month-to-month - continuous since 2005. My company recently told me that they are restructuring, and virtually eliminating the travel procurement dept - as such, I'm now basically responsible for arranging all travel-related expenditures for myself. I'd like to talk to a decision-maker at Nat Bus Corp, to set a new long term contract in place. My company will still reimburse for all expenses, but I can't retrieve the contact info they've been using (as the person responsible is no longer employed with us, lol). I called a few numbers I found on the Nat Em Club site, and even left a messages at the 877-707-1086 bus number twice - but no one has called me back.
I definitely want to stay with National (no doubt in my mind), but I need to be able to communicate with a decision-maker at National on a long term basis now. I'm hoping you might be able to help me out here.
FYI, I personally provide approx $6000-$10000 year in bus for Nat between my 365 days/year personal rental, and all travel-related rentals throughout each year.

If you speak with the manager at the location you've been renting with, maybe set up an appt to chat, they can pull up all the information on your rental records regarding the Rate ID and Rate structer you've been assigned to over the years so that you can continue that or perhaps work out something better (?) for the long term for you...considering how long you've been doing this.
We have many renters in Phx who are on permanent month to month rentals. They have many reasons for doing this. I know one gentleman who does it...he has his own business and likes having a fresh car every month, never has to worry about maintenance, buys our full coverage and writes off the entire expense. The only problem is he trashes the car every month. He doesn't "hurt" the car but it comes back looking like a trash can.

The one thing that I have been really looking forward to re the merger was the capabilitys to do one way from National to Enterprise. Any word on that?
Also, will you be able to make a reservation via Nationals website, and pick it up at an Enterprise? If yes, will you be able to use 1-2-Free?
