[quote=gleff;12096356]....set your cash advance limit on the card to zero and if your online card summary/statement shows this PRINT IT OUT.QUOTE]
That's interesting. I looked at my statement and you are absolutely right. Citi gave me a 20,000 credit limit but also a 6,000 cash advance limit (which I never asked for).
I do not want a large cash advance limit. If my card is ever lost or stolen, someone could make off with quite a chunk of change. Over many years of using credit cards, I have never taken a cash advance and do not plan to do so. That's a huge amount of money, and it's hard to imagine how I'd ever need that much cash without warning.
Is there a way to change the cash advance limit on the Citicards website? (I looked, but couldn't find one.) Or do I need to call Citi Customer Service and ask them to change this?
By the way, Gary, I very much enjoy reading your blog. I found you, as well as several other travel bloggers, at boardingarea.com.

You can use the secured email (Contact Us) function to send your request, or you can call the number at the back of your card.
Chase says they can't reduce cash advance amount without reducing my credit limit as one is a percentage of the other. Obviously don't want to reduce credit limit as that affects how much I can put in the new account. Any other suggestions to make sure the new account is funded as a purchase not a cash advance?

I've had chase reduce my cash advance amount to zero without touching my credit line, no problem.
It's always been funded as a purchase, period. This was just my suggestion for being extra cautious because this could always change at some point in the future without warning.

I've never heard of a refund to the credit card.
You don't actually have to keep the account open any minimum period of time, except if you're trying to secure a signup bonus for the account other than just funding the account with your credit card to earn miles.
But why not either (a) use the funds in the account to pay off your credit card? I suggest just using the billpay on their site to pay your card, in my experience they limit you to $10k/day this way so be sure to start before the due date on your credit card or (b) transfer the funds out to another account?

Has nybody gotten this to work where they already were a customer?
I called and was told this was for new customers only (another example of Citi's disloyalty rewards program, I suppose). Should I call back or is this a policy they actually enforce?

Yes, I was already a customer and it worked.
But... How hard is it to not call...???
Ask what you need to know here, in this thread...

What kind of an answer you expect?
This is about the dumbest question ever asked in this thread.
Enough information has been posted here, including gleff's link, and some people still ask such questions!

I should add that I'm answering lots of questions in this thread. In the past when I've done so, I've gotten several PMs and emails asking me not to, and pushing me to delete my replies.
It seems like enough info has already gotten 'out there' either in this thread, buried in other threads, or on a couple of blogs that genie is pretty much out of the bottle.
If this thread gains steam then I'd fully expect the door to slam shut on this deal, but then I expected it to do so a long time ago. It's been a great ride, and al good rides do eventually end (at least until you buy a new ticket and get back in line!)

Im new to this but heres what I learned
1- going OnLine and applying you will be asked if you already have an acct with Citi, when you log in and go thru the steps it will NOT allow you to fund the acct with a CC. You will have to call up the next day and speak to someone to do it via a CC
1a- I guess if you want to open another checking acct and use different passwords/Id then maybe you can fund it with a CC online I dont know for sure the answer
2- Do NOT use the back button once you clicked thru and dont see where it can be funded with a CC as it will end up opening up 2 different savings accts for You (I thought I missed where it said click here for CC funding)
3- the CC wont be charged then and there but will be over the next couple of days
4- therefore depending on a persond mind set it might be best to do everything the day after their CC statement closes to give them the max time till it has to be paid off. Excess $$$ lying around then no problem
5- no 1 month CDs are available 3 Months is the Min and the Ultimate Plans pay a heck of alot more in %
6- there are 2 Ultimate Plans 1 where you have to have 2 payments per month from any acct, the other none. If like me you do the 2 payments for more TYPs and to have the Monthly Fee waviered then it doesnt matter which plan you do IMO.
And seriously, folks, if there was ever a deal NOT to be calling about, or hitting too hard/frequently, it would be this one...
I totally agree with the statement.
OK, I started this thread and so maybe best to end this now and Everyone please just go with the info provided here already and NO more post to keep this active. Perhaps best to have this thing buried and anyone with questions may use the PM function instead.
And NO, don't call Citibank to inquire about this topic anymore as we don't want anymore unwanted attention as to what we are really doing with the saving acct opening deposit.
