Do you think this is possible? We might be in NV next week and can open accounts there -- since the California branches aren't participating I want to open TWO separate accounts.[indent][list][*]One for myself only and I will be there doing all the paperwork.
You opening the account is a definite yes. For the joint account, they normally want to see the ID of the primary. Since your mom will be the primary on the second account, it is a big question mark that can be answered only by trying. If they let you open two that would be great! Worth a try.
Regarding the length of time for repeated direct deposits, I have done it for two months and will find out next week if the 10K are posted into my account. It really has been convenient for me, splitting the paycheck to make small direct deposits and using the money to pay off the credit card bill/utilities.
I will keep the account open for at least 6 months. US Bank had some conditions in their fine print, and made me pay $25 for early closure of the account. Don't know if Chase has anything comparable in their T&C's, but I am not going to take chances with them.

I have had direct deposits for 3 months and still no miles. I contacted the Chase Research Department, and they said the coupon was never applied! So, I resubmitted the number to them, and they assured me I will see the miles within 2-4 weeks. I believe them, but this is hardly a painless process.
They insisted that I would recieve only 2,500 for the cheap card, not 5,000. Still, the extra $40 to get another 2,500 isn't worth it. I plan on getting additonal cards for my family members (or maybe even my middle name) for the 2,500 bonus for each card with no additional annual fee, then cancel those cards a couple months from now when I close the account.
I opened my account in Illinois, and according to them, the account can be closed after 90 days with no penalty.

Help
They're very liberal with the definition of direct deposit. I've done two types of deposits, both ACH transactions, and Chase considers them "direct deposits"

ING Direct savings account with automatic monthly dd to newly opened Chase account meets the dd requirements. I just closed the Chase account I opened for the CO miles a couple years ago. Took over a year and many phone calls to get proper credit. Print out everything, keep a file - you will probably need it.

It has been almost six months since the promotion began. I thought it would be useful to find out if we are really getting our bonus miles. If you opened an account since 01/01/09, please hit "QUOTE" and fill in your answers (to the extent you have them).
BTW, I opened my account on 05/03/09 with the $25 ATM card with only starter checks, immediately began weekly direct deposits, got my 5,000 miles on 06/10/09, the $25 ATM fee was charged on 6/23/09, and have not gotten my 10,000 bonus miles.
Lets hear from you!
1. What date did you open your account?
2. Did you apply for an ATM card?
3. If you applied an ATM card, did you choose the $25 or $65 card?
4. Did you set up a recurring direct deposit?
5. If you set up a recurring deposit, what was the first and second deposit dates?
6. What date did you get the 10,000 account opening bonus?
7. What date did you get the 5,000 first ATM use bonus?
8. If you did not get your bonus and had to contact someone, who did you contact and what was the outcome?

1. What date did you open your account? Feb 25, 2009
2. Did you apply for an ATM card? Yes
3. If you applied an ATM card, did you choose the $25 or $65 card? $25
4. Did you set up a recurring direct deposit? Two of them
5. If you set up a recurring deposit, what was the first and second deposit dates? March 10th & March 17th
6. What date did you get the 10,000 account opening bonus? Not as of yet
7. What date did you get the 5,000 first ATM use bonus? I was told I was ineligible because I ordered the $25 card. They're on to us.
8. If you did not get your bonus and had to contact someone, who did you contact and what was the outcome? Contacted a supervisor who filed a research ticket for me. Research department stated I've done everything necessary to get the 10,000 miles but was ineligible for the 5,000 (they gave the regular 2,500 though). Told me 10,000 would post by 6/10. 6/23 today still no miles. Followed up again. "They'll get back to me". Still haven't.

Chase....everything goes through Chase. United is of no help whatsoever.
If you are missing your miles, do the following:
1) Call Chase Customer Service
2) Ask for a supervisor, no questions asked (otherwise they WILL transfer you to United Mileage Plus Reservations - the agents are completely incompentent.....they don't even listen to what you are saying....I said "I am missing 10,000 bonus miles for the coupon offer I signed up my account with"....they replied (on at least a dozen occasions) "we are sorry your account is short $10,000, that would not be very nicey, I can see your headaches, mister, how can I helps providings you nice customer services today?" LORD HELP US ALL
3) Once you get the supervisor, tell them you "signed up with a coupon" for 10,000 United Miles and still haven't seen them.
4) Demand that they file a research ticket. They will not want to do this, and will try to tell you "Well, let's wait a couple more weeks, you never know if they'll show up". Don't listen to them - ask them to refer the question to their research department.
5) 48 hours later, the research department will contact you, and provide you with a phone number to contact them with any questions while you wait. Very very good customer service.
6) Another 48 hours later, you'll have your answer in detail.
Go for it everyone! The research agent told me my coupon would NEVER have been processed if I hadn't phoned in. The banker that signed me up didn't put it in the "coupon box" so it wasn't recognized by the system. He put it as a note, sitting idle. If your banker is similarly incompetent, you will never see your miles.

I received the 5K miles bonus a little less than 6 weeks after opening the checking acct. I wonder if that confirms that my banker correctly input the coupon information when I opened the account?
Edited to Add: I paid $65 for the enhanced ATM card.

I had received 5K for use of the Debit Card but only 2.5K posted for the checking account even though I had set up for direct deposits, and the deposits have been religiously made for the last 3 months. I called the customer service and talked to a supervisor. He pulled up my record which showed "pending" for the bonus miles, which he translated as some condition not being fulfilled. However, since he was not able to see anything amiss in terms of my meeting the requirements, he opened a ticket for further investigation and took down my day time call back number. Hopefully I will hear from them in the next couple of days and get my remaining 7.5K bonus miles out of the 10K that the promotion stated, were for opening a checking account and setting up direct deposit within 60 days. I had almost given up on Chase but thanks to "roadtripman" , I might get the full amount promised in their promotion.

Likely, since the 2,500 miles is the standard amount for the Chase check card, even without a coupon.
They won't listen to me - they are adamant the offer was for 2,500 miles only. Time to close this account and cut my losses before they start charging me a monthly maintenance fee.
I'm at around 35,000 UA miles now with the 10K posting....so, 2500 would only make me need to earn another 2500 before leaving MP behind. I think a trip to Central America or Caribbean is in order, then a prompt snubbing of all things UA.

Is anyone THAT HAS RECIEVED their 5,000 bonus for the $25 card willing to join me in trying to get the same for me? I might need to use your example as a case of someone who DID get the 5,000 bonus as the offer states.
If anyone can help out, PM me.
