How does Citi know to post miles?

Has anyone on here been asked for their AA# from Citi upon opening or after the 3 ( or 12) months? I certainly was not and upon asking was told they didn't need it. How will they get deposited???

Actually I just called and asked if they had any current promotions for me. It was a normal CSR, and not the Retention people.

After I signed up, a few days later, I received a direct mail with the same deal
Perhaps it may work for you, as it was an automated process:

800-410-9884

The same 2 offers (25% more miles until 4/30/09 and 5,000 bonus miles for $20,000 in purchases by 7/31/09) - I just realized the offer was for $20,000 and NOT $2,000 as I stated in my previous post - I think the CSR told me wrong. You just have to call by 3/31/2009.

I asked that question and was given this answer: The promotion is only for Citi AA credit card holders, and they know the AAdvantage number associated with your card(s). I asked if I needed to link the card to the checking account, but they said that's not necessary since they can match the social security numbers.

I spoke to a CSR today who informed me that instead of the one direct deposit or two online bill payments we can make five (5) debit card signature based transactions. The CSR did say that we must stick with the same method for the whole 12 months. I told her that no where in the offer T&Cs did it say debit cards transactions counted. Can anyone else verify this?

I'd stick with what they said in the T&C's, if you follow that, then you have definitely honored your end of the bargain that they had in writing. We do know how any given CSR can tell you completely opposite information to another one...and this is the Citibank side, not the Citi Cards side of the business. The banking side is far worse for honoring their promotions (or even knowing about their existence).

Can't sign up for Citi credit card offer

hi jimbaum, I tried to sign up for the 2 credit card offers you listed. tried 3 customer reps and they all told me these are targeted offers and can't be offered to me. in your experience, do i have to threaten them to cancel the card for them to give me the offer? i do want to keep the card though. i called the 800 # you listed and it asks for the special 10 digit # in the offer letter too. i'm new at this so i don't know how to work the system. any suggestion is appreciated. thanks.

tuscanyx, I received the same kind of reply you did.

jimbaum, I would be interested to hear what you did to receive these promotions without a promotion code.

Could you repeat the 800 number for this?

I am away on vacation so I'm not sure, but IIRC it was 1-800-745-1534

I simply had a casual conversation along the lines of "do you have any mileage offers for me?", and was in no way involved with trying to cancel my card. Perhaps it is only for the Gold card

On my letter it had the invitation # 0176694021. You can try this out by calling 800-410-9884. Not sure if the number is unique or not...

They are unique. I tried calling to register, and upon entering the code I was told that it had already been registered.

Best way to pay your credit card?

I have successfully opened a new USA account and have started to interest on it. I will have to use some of the funds to pay my credit card that funded the account. What are my options of doing so? I would like to hear how others do it.

Here are my options that I know:
- Link my credit card account to my USA account
- Perform an external transfer to another bank account and pay from there (I believe there is a $3 fee)
- Link my USA account from my ING account and transfer there (fee free), and then link my credit card to ING
- I don't think you can do a direct bill pay with a USA account only with no checking account
- Request account to be closed and have a check sent to you (timing wise this would need to be done quick)
- Use the ATM card to withdraw funds (risky, plus I don't think you can pull out that much cash

Are there any other way that I missed? Any comments?

Uhm.... go to a citi-branch tell them you have a citi-account, and you would like to pay your citi-credit card? They do allow you to do that, and payment posts the same day.

You could close the account, but, do it at the branch -- get your check immediately.

ACH transfer to an external checking account (assuming you are not above the cap that they place).
There's plenty of options. Perhaps a phone call to citibank might help you better as none of us know your specific situation...
