I just called Citi Aadvantage cards to see if they have a promotion going on.
1) Spend $2000 by 7/31/09 and receive 5000 bonus miles
2) Receive extra 0.25 miles per dollar until 4/30/09
Having enrolled in the above two, and having consolidated my credit line from my other Citi cards, I am ready to open a Citi banking account with my Aadvantage gold card to maximize my miles.
Planning to open $10,000 worth, for a total of 17,500 miles (10,000 from new account, 5000 from promo 1, and 2500 from promo 2
I opened the Ultimate Savings Account last Sunday and funded it with my Continental Chase card. Today a charge for the exact amount showed up in the activity on the card. So it was treated as a purchase in my case.
Are you trying to get the monthly fee on the regular checking account waived by opening a "stand-alone Ultimate Savings Account"? I'd like to know exactly what "stand-alone" means in this context: can/should the account be linked to the checking account? I'm also curious whether Citibank will honor those terms, since several posters have said that they've been told otherwise.

I've opened this account over the phone. I asked the banker to get me a separate ultimate savings, not linked to any checking account. He said there would be no monthly fees on it. However, later when I logged in to my citi accounts I saw that particular account with all the others that I currently have, so now I'm not sure whether it was linked to my existing checking account or not. But if it were, then for sure there would be no fees. I guess it would work either way. Now regarding what terms are you talking about? The banker said funding with a credit card would be treated as a purchase. The charge on the credit card reflects the exact amount I funded my savings account with. No cash advance fees. And no additional credit is allocated for the pending transactions (which could indicate the cash advance fees), so I think it's safe to assume that everything worked out just fine.
I closed my Ultimate Savings Account 3 weeks ago. Is it too soon to open a new account? Anyone knows how frequent the checking/Savings account can be "churned"?

I'm not aware of any official restrictions on how often U can open an account. But even if there aren't, if U want to fund the account with a credit card, U need to stay under the radar, and not overdo it, because one day U just might get rejected and not be allowed to do it anymore. The more U overdo it, the sooner it will happen. Personally, I will not open another account in the next 2 months.
Has anyone actually initially funded a Citibank account with a Chase credit card? Was it charged as a purchase or cash advance? I am specifically interested if I can earn miles this way on my United Airlines card, and would be interested if anyone has actually earned UAL miles this way.
Thanks.
Funded CitiBank account with Chase Freedom Visa ( $11K ). Posted to cc as purchase.
Did you simply call the number on the back of your card to sign up for these promotions?
Do they have specific promotion codes?

Wrong. You cannot use AMEX of any kind to do the initial funding, neither a Citi AMEX nor a "Co-Branded" (SPG, Delta, HHonors, etc) AMEX will be accepted by Citi to do the funding.
Has anyone had success using an American Express? Terockwo, not trying to question you, but it would be a big plus if I could use my Amex Card

Well, I would assume that since in my case when I went to do my funding via credit card, and the agent said that they would only take Visa and Mastercard, not American Express, I assumed that to mean that they would only take Visa and Mastercard, not American Express.
Nonetheless, you're welcome to try where others have failed, just in this case I wouldn't expect different results.
Oh... there was no mention of Discover Card in the conversation, however, I'm going with the assumption that 'Only Visa and Mastercard' excludes that as well.

I have a feeling he called and asked to cancel the card, whereby he was passed to retentions. jimbaum, do correct me if I am wrong on that assumption.
Nonetheless, these seem to be new offers, and I'm surprised they stacked them (i.e. two retention bonuses at the same time).
I'm on an offer for double AAdvantage miles on all purchases for 6 months, but, it caps at $10K spending.
Somewhat interested in your extra 1/4 point per dollar. Is there a cap on it? I've got an $80K credit line. When I go to open my second account (will wait a couple months), the 3/4 point less offer would work out better for me being that it's uncapped (i.e. instead of earning 90K AAdvantage points on my bonus, it would be 100K if I had yours -- an additional 1% towards lifetime gold)
Now if I could also get them to 'stack' my retention offers like you managed to get them to do... even better.
