If it has not been mentioned, per the T&C, the types of accounts that must be opened are:
Checking account must be funded with $1,000 or more and must be in a Citibank Account, Citibank Everything Counts® or Citigold® account relationship package.
Additionally, the t&c of the Citibank Acct (which I was linked to when I followed the link) include:
1. To avoid monthly fees, you need to maintain a $6,000 combined average balance — an easy goal to reach. Why? Because so many accounts go toward it: Checking, Savings, CDs, Money Market, Lines, Loans, Mortgage and Brokerage (to qualify, accounts must be linked to your ATM/Debit Card.)
Fees are: None if you meet the required balance OR you have a stand-alone Ultimate Savings Account.
If not, in NY, NJ and CT, it's $9.50 for Regular Checking and $12.50 for Interest Checking. In all other states, it's $12.50 for Regular Checking and $15 for Interest Checking.
Monthly Fee None if you meet the required balance OR you have a stand-alone Ultimate Savings Account. https://web.da-us.citibank.com/cgi-b...seBVCookie=yes
Open an Ultimate Savings Account with a $100 minimum deposit The Ultimate Savings Account is only available online or by phone – you can't apply for it in a Financial Center

Sorry - I can't find this information in the T&C of the offer page. Just to be sure, I did a word search on that page on the word "Ultimate" and came up with nothing. I do see "Checking account must be funded with $1,000 or more and must be in a Citibank Account, Citibank Everything Counts® or Citigold® account relationship package." Is this Ultimate Savings Account part or all of one of these? Else, where did you find this information?

Ok. I found it. For others who are confused, click on the Package Details and Fees link on the offer page, the scroll down to the third package, "The Citibank Account". Notice footnote 6 on the Monthly Fees section. I believe it is that footnote to which Schutzee refers: "Fees for The Citibank Account are also waived if you have a stand-alone Ultimate Savings Account."
Man, is that obscure and well hidden. Before accepting this offer, I would be sure to make a copy of the offer page and the Package Details and Fees page, complete with that footnote, and copies of everything related to the Ultimate Savings Account. And then I would be very ready to do battle with Citi when they try to charge fees and/or deny the miles. I suspect that all of this may be more effort than the miles are worth. Then again, Citi might just surprise me.
The T&C say a "stand alone ultimate savings account". I can not find a way to apply for that product. I found a link but when you click "apply online now" it takes you to a page which says you are appying for EZ Checking w/ Ultimate Savings. It seem Citi spends as much time trying to confuse us as we spend looking for miles! https://web.da-us.citibank.com/cgi-b...&Promo_ID=CKC4
My experience with Citi Bank (as opposed to Citicards) has been horrible.
Thank you all very much for this very informative thread and forum. I've been a follower for some time now and would like to contribute. I agree with the previous poster that when trying to open the account online it automatically bundles it with the checking account. The alternative is to open the account over phone.
I was given the number 800-745-1534 (option 2) by the customer support specialist. Just mention to the person opening the account that you want a stand-alone individual Ultimate Savings account. You can fund the account using your Credit/Debit card.
Does anyone who has had experience with this type of offer before know if it is actually essential to have a Citibank AAdvantage credit card to receive the 20,000 miles? If so, could I perhaps change one of my thank you points earning cards (especially given the upcoming devaluation of that program) into an AAdvantage card and then become eligible for this promotion?

Can we now assume this is considered a 'purchase' as far as your credit card goes?
I've got over $50K credit line on one of my AAdvantage accounts, I'll take an additioinal 50K miles if this is considered a purchase (and obviously no fees involved).

Yes, this will be considered a purchase, & yes you will earn miles, & no there will not be any fees incurred. This is the best/easiest way to earn (AA) miles on all of FlyerTalk in my opinion, & it is highly under-rated, I cant believe there isn't more fuss about it, but that's fine, lets keep it on the down-low...

Yes, it is indeed considered a purchase. I asked and re-asked the account specialist to the point that she was getting pissed. Nevertheless, she did confirm that it would post as a purchase on my CC.

Thank you very much for the info, I also confirmed with the online representative, and recorded the chat screen (both text and screen captures). It is confirmed to be a purchase.
I'm just waiting for my next statement date to roll, then the day after I'm making the purchase (would be nice to have that $50K also earning some interest for me for a month and a bit for free as well).
Unfortunately, I don't have a thankyou card to put this on, as it would solve my problems of trying to get to 90K points before March 1st.
Also unfortunate that I already have a citibank account, so, I really can't sign up for the AAdvantage offer. I'm just going to buy their silly 7 month CD, interest rate isn't great, but, it's not terrible (2.3%).
I actually do wonder what fraud alerts will be set off when I try to run the $50K charge to fund the CD...
For the direct deposit: will Citi acknowledge ACH transfer from paypal or any other bank as a direct deposit every month?
My new AAdvanatge card only has a credit limit of 5k, any way to increase it before funding the account?
