I noticed that there is a fee-free offer for Amex gift cards...
Anyone know if these can be used in the same way as the checks? i.e. buy and refund/deposit into an account?
i saw that too and was thinking if something would work. if the card comes with a pin # you might be able to buy money order's with it and deposit them into your bank account. cheap way to get miles. doubt that they have pin #'s though.
Does it show up as a purchase or cash-advance on UK cards?
Does anyone here know if you are charged any kind of "cash advance" fee for buying Amex Travellers Cheques when using an Amex card in the UK (using a UK card)?
Buying the cheques is commission-free but how does it show up on your statement? As a regular purchase or cash advance?
Hi. I just looked at my statement for last month, and my Travelers Check charge did not show up as a purchase on my Starwood Amex statement. Is the gig over? Are you all still getting points for the TC purchases?

It was confirmed that this was dead as of (and including) April 2nd (i.e. you can buy the things fee free, but, you won't earn any points).
If something has changed, then, wonderful. I hope someone would post here and inform us.
Curious though, what do you mean that this 'did not show up as a purchase' ? Did it show up at all? You do know that it takes up to a week for buying these TC's to appear on your current activity/statement. If it 'did' show up, but, not as a purchase... what did it show up as?

Sorry I was unclear. It was charged to my card and showed as a line item, but did not count as a purchase in the sense that it did not earn points.

The deal is dead. AMEX has stated that no points will be given.
Experience proves this to be true, no points and it doesn't count as a purchase so it doesn't even help to achieve gold status.

This deal is dead. You can still buy travelers checks but you don't get points and it doesn't count towards purchases for status.
I don't know how to change the original titale
