I just went for my weekly pick-up here in Atlanta and was told, like others are saying here, that effective today, only CHARGE cards are eligible for buying travelers checks. CREDIT cards are not allowed for purchasing travelers checks at all, even for a fee.

Also, I have been going every Thursday for the last few months. The day of the week is not the issue, it's a policy change.

DANG DANG DANG. It was so good while it lasted. I wish I had been doing it for years, not months.

I have a corporate MR card. Others have said it doesn't earn MR for TC purchases. Can anyone confirm?

I went on Tuesday and got my travellers checks. The sign was still up saying fee free.

I warned that this would happen though...

I can confirm that my corporate Business Gold Rewards card does NOT earn MR points on TC purchases.

Got a note from AMEX today that they were lowering my credit limit by 5k and my cash advance limit from 2400 to 200? ...? I had a huge credit limit so I'm not concerned so much about that but the $200 limit on cash advance seems like a result of me getting TC's of $2000 each with about 10 days in between. Not even enough time to pay the credit card off as my bill has not settled. YIKES.

Well, this is really crummy. I am still going to go for my weekly trip to the local AMEX store tomorrow and see what happens, but, this news does not seem promising at all.

Hopefully California doesn't get the memo...

The memo is effective today for California as well, of course. (unfortunately)

I take it you just tried.

I am going to miss this deal. Like others had mentioned, wish I had been doing it for years, not months.

Another way AmEx has suddenly devalued their offerings in the limited time since I came back to the company - last was a corporate card holder in 2003, got a personal card this year.

Unhappy Deal's dead

Tried my SPG today at the Arlington VA AmEx Travel Center and no more joy in Mudville. She showed me the changes that we made TODAY killing the deal. Now if I had a black AmEx card it would work, yeh right. Fun while it lasted.
