My wife recently took a job in the Bay Area, and we will be going back and forth between LA and San Francsico weekly for at least the next two years. I'm wondering if this is a good opportunity to try a different airline's elite program.
What is your/wifes defintion of best?
What do you/wife want from a FFP?

Best airline loyalty program from NYC to PEK and PVG/SHA?

I just switched jobs and will be flying from NYC (JFK, LGA, EWR) to China, either Beijing (PEK) or Shanghai (PVG or SHA), about 15 times a year.

Given the heavy volume of flying, I am very incentivized to maximize my experience through a loyalty program, but I am unsure which is the best one for my specific routes.

I just achieved United Premier 1K status (their top status) and have generally found their loyalty program OK, but I am wondering if anyone can make a case for a better program. Given the frequency of my travel, I expect I'd get status at any program fairly quickly.

Thank you for any thoughts.

Combining points

Hi everyone, first time here but have helped out many others on travel forums. (if you need to know anything about travel in Colombia let me know)

I have been traveling a lot lately and want to know if I can get any use out of the miles I have accumulated. flights in the last 6 months include
- Bogota - LA with aeromexico
- LA - Melbourne with Air New zealand
- flights around europe with Air Malaysia and Sri Lankan Air
- Barcelona to Bogota with Iberia

I also have points with Qatar and Avianca

I know by themselves they aren't worth much but I thought if there was a way of combining them I could get something out of it.

was hoping to be able to make a trip Bogota to Mexico later in the year
and use these points. Or somehow use them on Avianca flights

any advice would be great

My first piece of advice would be to indicate where you elected to credit these flights, as well as your current account balances.

Just curious: How does one fly "around Europe" on SriLankan?

You seem to have point spread across many alliances that are not partners within themselves. You can not combine them. You should to concentrate your points accumulation within the same carrier, that way you gain more.

combined points

sorry, Sri lanka airlines I used to and from Sri Lanka to Rome.

I havent claimed any of the points yet, I figured I can still claim them but wanted to know what the best way to do so was. ie via an alliance program or choose one individual airline program and try and claim them to that.

truth is I know little of how this works.

best result for me would be to claim points back to Avianca or Aeromexico programs

You need to figure this out for yourself.

To start, look at the websites for the airlines you flew, figure out what alliances they are in and what other partners they may have, determine what fare classes you flew in and where (if anywhere) you can credit those flights, and determine what FFP's will permit retroactive credit as much as six months after a flight, particularly if you were not enrolled at the time you flew.

U have points w Avianca & Qantas, they do not belong to same alliance and are not partners. U can credit air New Zealand to avianca, Iberia, air Malaysia and Sri lanka to Qantas. No luck with Aeromexico, as it belongs to Skyteam alliance. Please read the program of avianca and Qantas, you will see who is partner. In the end, for future flights, you should concentrate your flying with one particular carrier, alliance. Currently u have 2, Avianca which is Star Alliance, and Qantas, which is One World.
Suerte, yo tengo mucho tiempo en esto.

Best FF program for LAX/BUR/ONT->SFO/OAK/SJC

Of your choices from LAX all of the terminals are in major reconstruction and the SW terminal is about the worst for congestion. From BUR or ONT the airports are easier to handle but that limits you mostly to SW. Alaska did fly into OAK from LA but not sure about now. Because of the $$$ component needed for elite on UA and DL that makes them unattractive for purely these shuttling flights. VX has a great product though.

Thanks rollin, points were actually with Qatar not Qantas, but I see where you are getting at. I need to do a bit more research and try and claim as much as I can on the avianca points as thats what I use regularly here.

Combining points

If you have questions about Avianca, use the Avianca forum. if you have questions about Qatar, use the Qatar forum. Same for aeromexico.

But generally, no, you cannot combine points once they've been earned in different programs.
