Best $/Mile Award Redemption Program LAX to Brazil

Hi,
I've heard LAN has great redemption awards to BR, but is appears to be from the East Coast, NOT Los Angeles. AA looks good on PAPER, but it is more attractive for off-peak travel which is not possible with our kid's school calendar. In fact, that best that AA can do is 110K RT next July '15. Is this the best I can do from LAX? I'm at a juncture where I have used up miles and can reconsider alliance programs, so this is more of a long term planning question. Thanks!

How did you determine "the best that AA can do"? Did you call AA? The aa.com website cannot display award options on either LAN or TAM.

What I would consider if I was LAX based would be to try to connect to LAN in MEX. I have always been able to find business class seats with them to LIM using Avios for only 25k each way.

From there you can easily find a ton of availability on LAN or TAM to GRU (another 20k in business). (or find a direct TAM flight from MEX)

I would say, unless you cant find any availability on AA from Miami I would go that route, if you have more AA miles than avios, i'd use those.

Finding economy seats on this route is going to be a bit harder, but the one good thing about LAN is that a lot of less tourist-heavy routes usually have great availability.

Unfortunately, "long term planning" is an oxymoron to frequent flyer programs today. With constant devaluations, and extremely unpredictable availability, you need to keep miles in both *A and OW.
An example: been planning a trip to Cusco for next year for a while now. Last year, I looked at United's web site, and there was a TON of availability 11 months out. Not so much on LAN. So I built up my United balance. Now, when I go to book 11 months out, there is NOTHING on United, but TONS of availability on LAN. Good thing I had AA miles also!!

Lufthansa !

I got 50K from the LH credit card and pushed another 10K in spend and car rentals in a month. 60K LH gets you rt on UA to anyplace in South America. I went to Buenos Aires basically for a $69 credit card fee.

LH's USA telephone line is really easy to use and pleasant with plenty of UA availability and no fees.

As it states in the Announcement: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: NEW AMERICAN / AA and US Pre-Merger FORUM STRUCTURE at the top of the forum pages, AA and US continue operating as separate airlines at the moment.

We will move this to the appropriate forum.
