Safeway/Vons- buy $100 to $500 Visa Gift card, get $10 back in groceries

Safeway near Tyson's corner for the past week has been printing me two 10$ off coupons when buying a MC 100$ card; able to apply both to future purchases which is helping bring down the cost of groceries a lot more. Dunno why I'm getting two but keep em' coming.

Note: the second Catalina coupon specifically states only for 50$ and up purchases, something the usual does not.

Check your 'Just4U' offers

I got an offer for $15 off any purchase of a Mastercard Giftcard $100 or larger.

This is even better than the $10 coupon deal. This is an actual discount on the purchase of the Gift card.

I did this yesterday and paid a total of $90.95 for a $100 MC GC (after the $5.95 fee).

Basically a free $9.

* Be aware of course that you actually have to sign up for 'Just4U' on your Vons card, and register for this offer. This should go without saying, but, now you've been additionally warned.

This same deal has now appeared twice over the last six weeks in the weekly e-mail sent to Safeway "Just for U" customers in Washington state. Limited to one per household. The current coupon is good through Jan. 5, so you might try signing up for the "Just for U" program to see if this deal shows up in your mailbox.

check out slickdeals. I confirmed this works.

buy a variable gift card and load $200. You'll get $30 back. With a $5.95 fee, it comes out to $175.95 for a $200 MC.

there's no advantage to loading more since the most you can get is $30 back.

if you can't find the variable load MC, then buy 2 $100 GC in the SAME transaction. Less profitable, but still better.

I was able to get in on this as well. Looks like a one shot deal. Has anyone redeemed more than once?

PayPower Visa Prepaid Card

The Vons Just4U is waiving the fee on the PayPower Visa Prepaid Card.

I've never used this prepaid card before, and have no idea if the product is any good, but, at least it's a way to prepay in a 'grocery store' category if your card offers such bonuses. Worst case scenario, drain it like a gift card I guess.

The PayPower card can do pin purchases and ATM. However, it has very high fees for the benefits after the first month. I got one in September and did "one-and-done" with it.
