Lufthansa don't allow 3rd party bookings on their website?
So I can't buy airline ticket with my card to a friend. Strange policies they have, don't they?
Oh, and I have to show them the credit card I used for booking at the airport "for verification"? WFT? Does any of you tried to 'forgot it at home'? Do they let you fly? As far as I know I am only required a valif govt. ID and a valid ticket to fly.
In this case, what can you recommend? Do the alternative, non-direct-by-airline booking engines offer as good deals as the airlines themselves?
Or I should just drop Lufthansa becaouse of their stupid policies?
I wouldn't sweat it. In all my years of flying, I've never been asked for my credit card at an airport. I have used credit cards to print boarding passes at the airport but if the person you are buying for doesn't mind standing in line or can print at home there shouldn't be a problem.
Now, if the website doesn't allow you to use the credit card of a different person, that's another story. Try calling and booking by phone.

Check out this thread.
It does happen.
I haven't been required to show my CC by LH yet, though.

Originally, the requirement that credit cards be presented at the airport had to do with prevention of credit card fraud. In the USA, that started to go away as airlines began collecting the CVV/CVC's. I don't think it has to do with security.

You can always use a third party web-site such as Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, etc. You make actually get a cheaper fare on them sometimes that the airlines directly.

It varies by airline, so this is dangerous advice if taken generally. I have personal experience with BR enforcing this strictly, and there is a recent thread about TG doing the same.
British Airways also ask for the Credit Card used to buy the tickets at their self service check-in stations. Both times I have since changed CC and couldn't produce it. Not a problem at the staffed desks.
Even if certain exotic LH country sites didn't allow it, it wouldn't matter, since you don't have to be logged in to buy a ticket. You can freely choose your country (POS) then.
