yesterday when limo-services brought us from the FCT to our plane I applied for a job at the ministry of silly walks and to my own surprise pretty badly faceplanted on the APRON because of slippery ice on the ground.
I hurt my knee quite seriously and am off to an ER now.
Just as a reminder and against my personal knowledge: Not all parts of the APRON around the docked plane seem to be heated.
My suggestion to LH is:
a) park the car next to the door
b) tell your pax it might be slippery
c) not have the PA/driver rush like an idiot towards the door, do it at a normal pace and perhaps help pax with luggage
Yeah I know... Cold equals ice equals watch your steps. Not blaming LH for my incompetance to walk straight. But I was connecting from an international flight and had no real contact with the outer world and was not aware of the weather situation. On top, my fine Lloyd's leather sole shoes were not a real weather fit. I chose them, because I would spent 99pc of the time inside airport/plane or fct and my boots are always making the metaldetector go nuts at sec screening...
All I say a little heads up from LH would have been nice.
So as LH did not do that, a little warning from my behalf to you...

Oh dear. Hope you are not too badly hurt !
Did you miss the flight or did you go to the ER after you arrived ?
...Imagine getting a ride from the FCT to the plane only to be picked up at the apron by an ambulance and given a ride to hospital ... great show for the pax already onboard !

Yesterday was really bad around the airport. I drove on the autobahn by the airport around 11am and on the radio they warned of black-ice around the airport. I already saw one accident and later they said on the radio that serveral accidents around the airport already happened. Was no fun to drive yesterday.
Good warning, but I don't see how this is related to the FCT, the danger is just as much there when getting bussed to the plane. Or just walking to it from the Gate which happens occasionally in winter when the jetbridges fail.

Posting on FT on your way to the ER-- what a trooper!
I hope there isn't any lasting injury and you get better soon.

The OP is relating a story to us in the form of a caution-- since it happened getting from the FCT limo to the plane, that is how it is posted.

The difference between those boarding/deboarding methods is that from my experience the FCT-Limodriver literally park the car, where they want to or see it fit to..
With different positions and distances to the plane or door. There is not one marked area for this process as with the ones you are describing.
I also experienced twice that we got into the airport through a different gate entrance than the one the plane was waiting for us as either the drivers keycard did not open the right door or he forgot it in the first place. So they asked a closeby loader to open the other door.
THanks for all the wellwishes. Having my knee taped now and such a cool bandage athletes wear to take off weight of the knee. I damaged the disc and the bursa behind it... Not a to good start into the New Year.

Yeah, me faceplanting was enough of a show for them already... I felt the pain and knew I had to go and see an ER/physicist the second it happened. I was away from home on business over christmas and new years eve and just wanted home and not spent anymore time in FRA. So I limped onto the plane, got some ice from the crew.

Sorry to hear about your bumpy boarding ... but look at the bright side: you got dropped off at the plane by a limo and you got collected from it by a car. Kinda sweet !

The same would have happend if the OP had died on the plane. Including a possible "bright" side/light. Still nothing "sweet" one would wish to happen, right?

Ouch, I know this pretty well, as the disc of my right knee tends to dislocate easyly. Happened last time in the middle of nowhere on Negros Island in a dark hotel stairway in the early morning (before I had my first coffee).
That's also the reason why I have to be careful on slippery ground. Had also a similar accident by slipping on a glazed apple pie in a subway station at MUC

Not that this is about me, but I'm terrible with these things, and I would have been so mortified for myself that I probably would have stayed there, face-down, until the flight pushed-back and taxied away before I got up. Even if it had meant frostbite.
Back to the OP: Glad you're okay (pretty much), and your warning is certainly timely and helpful. Take care of that knee!
