I am not certain there is more CC crime here than in the US. Anyhow, if I book a ticket 3 months ahead, the aieline already has the money why do they bother. If I charged it to somebody elses account I am sure he / she would notice a few thousand $ extra on her statement... It just makes no sense whatsoever. But again, I tried to argue, but no avail......

Cheers, S

If that's the case (and I highly doubt it), then Asia simply has more fear and paranoia regarding CC crime.

Anyway, I just bought two discounted web tickets on the PG website (which was difficult enough, as the site crashed several times during the process), and the site clearly stated that I'd have to present my CC when checking in. However, I don't have to present it when using MasterCard Secure Code. So this certainly is because of fraud protection and pax paying with somebody else's CC number.

I just got a call from Amex where they told me they have to cancel my existing card to replace it with a new one, as someone seems to be running around in Canada with a copy of my Centurion card.
Amex suspects that the copy was made in Thailand, as I am there frequently and they have lots of problems originating in South East Asia.

Now I have to change the number in lots of profiles ...

My Amex was used at JW BKK and Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit twice in June - a month later somebody was running with it in China. Now, after the next trip, using it at JW BKK, Pattaya Marriott and a hotel in the Philippines - it has stopped working again. Looking forward to the call again when the holidays are over...

My Visa was copied twice in Thailand. My friend's Diners last time. CC fraud is so widespread in Thailand it's not funny and that's without even using them at a shady tailoring shop or a massage parlor.

Hence it doesn't surprise me TG/CX/SQ want to see cards. Never happened in LH to me though.

Somewhat relevant: Etihad went a step further - exact name match and address match for my own CC, but two months later I saw a refund on the statement. BKK office of EY said cancelled by AUH due to credit card fraud, email them, don't bother us (a week to departure). My bank assured it was just EY refunding it, they had nothing to do with it. I had no interest to do business with EY rebooked with Emirates... FWIW, on EY it was a dirt cheap ticket on a high demand period ex-BKK.

Could very well be... I had two prepaid res at SGS with those hand written receipts+CC slip they send out to your address. It was my first suspect too.

But I keep hearing the details are often caught from unsecured dial-up connections the credit card readers make. I should look if the copied Visas coincide with SGS stays, well possible since I often spent a weekend there while living in BKK.

I assume that my FT card fully does it upon check-in (if even required beside ID) but just wanted to double check with you. I'm asking because I was almost denied boarding in a similar case on a IBERIA flight. Well, LH/LX is not IBERIA and I was never asked to present the CC on a LH/X flight (even if the flight was paid by CC) - but it is still better to be safe than sorry.
My last (and only) award flight with LH is a while back and I can't remember on the check-in details.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with me.
no problems at all your card will do they want just something that you use for identification which could be a creditcard that you present. allthough credit card is mainly used to identify you at the machines and not at the gate, at the gate a passport will always do.... if you have the creditcard not at hand, simple print your confirmation so you have the booking reference at hand and can check in with that ..... everything is handled very easy here and you can always proof identity with a passport..... lh has no probs with that stuff.

uhm i dun like that hotel, theres plenty of better accomodation, including a family that has some private rooms for rent, cooks for you and such stuff (you ahve a safe in your room) which is actually even giving you something of the thai culture.... btw. my chaotic long holidays was the whole december in thailand flying back on 31st shortly before midnight, seen the complete firework over bangkok. superb! ..... never had probs with my credit card usage from thailand..... but yes i know its quite common in asia.

I don't think the family will accept my Corporate AMEX card.....;-) Anyhow, everybody has different preferences. I like the location and the service at the Sheraton. The rroms are very nice and there is a great Thai restaurant just 2 blocks away.....S
