Award ticket stopover in LAX question (LHRAKL)

Hi - Another question on booking a stopover on a M&M award:

I'm looking at LHR AKL return with NZ using LH M&M award - availability shows good on ANA tool for my dates. I assume it's going to be 100000 miles when I phone M&M to book it.

I would like to include a free stopover (a few days, not just 23.59 hours) in LAX on the way out.

I realize that LAX and AKL are in different zones, and the rules on M&M website just say "Please contact your local Miles & More Service Team to obtain details of the current terms and conditions".

What's the current applied policy on this? Can I get a free LAX stopover, or is it barred because LAX and AKL are in different zones?

(Mods: please merge this into another thread if necessary - I couldn't find one, and didn't want to bump on old thread.)

As this is a three-regions award (Europe-USA-Pacific) you are entitled to the stopover free of charge.

Another question, do you really want to waste your miles to do this to yourself in Eco?

Taxes and fuel surcharges will probably yield a negative mileage value too compared to a (cheap) revenue ticket !

Have done LHR to Austalia/NZ in Y quite a few times with the kids. I don't really like taking the kids in C in case they mess around. They're small still, so I have all their leg room, so Y is just fine.

Plus kid #1's *A gold card is about to expire (he's 6yo now) and he says he likes the AKL lounge he knows his gold is going to expire soon and he will then have to rely on mine...

Not on this route.

Having a stopover in LAX will preclude being able to tack on flights to another region such as africa or middle east (AKL-LHR with no stopover on single flight number is not a 3 region award).

AFAIK the rue of no stopover rule on single flight No has been abolished since some time back - maybe LHrelate or Runabout can shed light on this.
Background ist the the through flight no on UA from LHR to HNL that used to be a different redemption rate than 3 region but now falls under 3 region.

Cheers

That is not what I am referring to. More about maximising the use of 3 region award instead of "wasting" it on NZ/OZ to Europe.
