I read the fine print and even called them and asked how they were going to make money with the product. There is no minimum investment, it is actually not an investment product at all. I also don't see anything suspicious in the fine print. You should get 5000 miles just for opening the account.
Basically, they give you a free bank account, a free credit card and the ability to withdraw money from this credit card worldwide with no fees and with no interest (the credit card bill needs to be paid in full every month though). They don't require any regular salary payments on the account (like other German banks with free cash withdrawals do).
Now if you start using up credit on their bank account, it costs interest (reasonable 7.9% p.a.), and their Maestro card is a rip-off (10EUR fee per cash withdrawal).
But as long as you stay away from using their Maestro card, it looks like a good deal... actually too good to be true.

Did you ask them what the terms are to close the account?
I am not sure what are talking about. "Sell" your financial data to a "list of private investigators"? What I find is:
and this is pretty normal. If you do not like it, better never ever open an account.
Where I come from (Austria) it is NOT normal that the bank transmits your data to a private investigator. It is forbidden by law! I have had several bank accounts in Germany and never had to sign such a contract.

I find that hard to believe. The "private investigators" that DKB alludes to are credit-scoring bureaus like Schufa, Infoscore or Experian. If you sign up for a German account that involves the extension of a line of credit, your bank will want to check your credit score, and for that you need to sign a waiver that they are allowed to exchange data about you with the above mentioned companies.
You would have to sign a similar clause with any German bank, whether it's Sal. Oppenheim, Commerzbank or your local Sparkasse or Volksbank.
But back to the topic - the DKB account comes with a few pitfalls, but if you use it correctly (i.e. only withdraw cash via the Visa-Card and making sure that your Girokonto, from which your Visa transactions are deducted, does not go negative) you can save a fortune on ATM fees. I've been a DKB customer for four years now, have used my DKB Visa for 150-200 ATM withdrawals (saving me over 600€ in fees over the years), and would not hesitate for a moment in recommending it to others.

Count me in. I am with DKB for several years now and enjoy my free ATMs and the pretty good interest rate for funds. I do not care about Schufa and all this as I pay my bills....

Wake-up Promotion
When you travel you gather new impressions and we would like to add to that with the opportunity of earning plenty of award miles as well. That's why we're knocking on your door today with a very special Miles & More offer.
Take off to fabulous destinations between 20 July and 20 October 2009 and you will receive 100 % more award miles for your flights with Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Croatia Airlines and Adria Airways.*
Register for this promotion today with just one click.
*Additional award miles can be earned for up to eight flight segments during the promotional period from 20 July to 20 October 2009. The offer is not valid in combination with other Miles & More offers and only applies to scheduled flights with Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Croatia Airlines and Adria Airways.
Codes are only valid for flights that are operated by Lufthansa and Lufthansa Regional Partner.
The promotion code can be redeemed until Oct 31, 2009. Last inbound flight must be on Dec 31, 2009.
Only one promotional code can be used for each booking process
It reduces the tariff value of the ticket and cannot be used for fees, taxes, charges or other supplements
If the tariff value of the ticket is less than the value of the promotion code, the residual amount can be deducted from the tariff value of other tickets bought in the same booking process
If the value of the promotion code exceeds the total tariff value of all the tickets in a booking process, the residual amount cannot be redeemed in a further booking process
The promotion code is only valid on the country version of www.lufthansa.com for which the promotion code has been issued
If a ticket for which a promotion code was redeemed is reimbursed, only the reduced tariff value of the ticket – depending on the tariff terms and conditions attached to the ticket – is reimbursed
Promotion codes and any residual values resulting from their use cannot be paid in cash
If the value of a ticket bought with a promotion code is used as a down payment for a higher-priced ticket (e.g. towards a higher tariff), only the reduced value of the ticket is put towards the value of the new ticket
Certain tariffs may be excluded from the use of promotion codes
Promotion codes may only be used for flight tickets, not for rebooking charges (MCOs) or excess baggage tickets
The passenger receipt, which serves as an invoice for flight tickets, only shows the reduced ticket price Lufthansa reserves the right to cancel a promotion code at any time.
Limit per promotion is one code per person.
Lufthansa reserves the right to cancel the booking when the same passenger uses several codes.

Not sure if this has been posted before...
... 15 EUR off your next booking via lufthansa.com.
...
Nice and thanks, but it seems not to work for me. When I try to use it on my HKG booking site, there is no spot to enter a promotion code. I checked all pages, incl. payment page. I can't book through any other LH country pages as my flight would then be a lot more expensive.
Am I blind not to spot it? Or is there a genuine problem?
