Alex0683de - thanks for that information. If I'm honest I find it staggering.

A couple of points, are LH checkin agents armed with tape measures to validate the 158cms limit?

Secondly, and perhaps more pertinant. My first two legs are with OS in C. Now an earlier post suggests that my bags will be checked all the way to CPT from LHR.

If my understanding (always in doubt) of the information from the OS website on baggage allowance is correct - I am entitled to 40Kgs as a FF (Miles&More member) plus 1 golf bag max 15kgs.

http://www.aua.com/at/eng/About_Flig...reebaggage.htm

So, is the logic that as OS check in my clubs at LHR at no extra charge, all the way to CPT, a LH agent never sees my baggage, and no charge should incur?

Or am I dreaming?

I agree. I also think it's very poor form.

No idea, I've never tested the regulation. I would imagine that they have some solution in place though.

I *think* you're correct. LH will definitely not hit you with extra charges if OS checks your bags all the way through. The question is, will OS charge you at LHR for the LH sector? Probably not.

What kind of Miles&More member are you? "Frequent Traveller" means LH*S - not Miles&More members in general.

In any case, for Star Gold (non-LH), it says:

"Business Class 50kg**

** 1 golf bag (max. 15 kg) free of charge if within the specified free checked baggage allowance"

So you should be fine anyway, even without the 50kg +1 regulation for M&M status pax.

One thing though - what does your return flight look like? If it starts with CPT-FRA, you're going to have a hard time dodging the fee.

Why? Baggage allowance is clearly specified in the PNR. If it is one ticket, it will always show that it is a piece concept itinerary.

SmilingBoy is correct. If the agent starts talking about excess baggage, remind them to check the rest of the itinerary. Problem solved.

Max luggage size on weight concept?

Hi, anyone know the maximum size I can check in from PVG to OSL, and if I exceed the limits, how much do I have to pay? The rules focus on sports eqipment, but this is just a big box, around 90 x 90 x 90 cm. Would my *G status be of any help?

I merged your post with the general LH baggage regulation thread. You can find the regulations in the first post of this thread.

Your baggage may have a maximum dimension of 158 cm (62inches).

So let's say I fly HAM - LHR - LAX in Y, where the first leg is with LH and the second with UA.

If I carry, 2 bags, 20kg each, since my first operating carrier is LH, does this mean that I have to pay 20kg of excess luggage since I'm over my weight-concpet limit of 20kg, eventhough I am flying to LAX?

AFAIK, weight-concept applies to LHR.

PS: I never understood the purpose of the weight-concept, could someone expain?

If it is on one ticket, the whole itinerary is piece concept. If it is on two tickets, then it is weight concept on HAM-LHR and piece concept on LHR-LAX.

Weight concept simply means that you can take an unlimited number of pieces, but the total is limited to a certain weight. With piece concept, you are only allowed a certain number of pieces, and each piece has a certain weight restriction.

PC has now been extended to some more countries:

Code:

23 kg in Economy Class.

- Star Alliance Round the World Tarife

Bei Rückfragen wenden Sie sich bitte an die Ihnen bekannten Ansprechpartner.

baggage question

Hi,
Im currently Star Gold with Thai but plan to switch much of my business as well as future miles earned from Thai to MM. Baggage allowance is one of the deal makers for me. However when looking at the MM status table and benefits I was a little confused about the baggage rules for MM status holders.

FTL Weight concept: a total of 40 kilos (7)
Piece concept: -

Senator: Weight concept: 20 kilos in addition (8)

Hon: Piece concept: one extra bag Weight concept: 20 kilos in addition (8)

Piece concept: one extra bag

Does the above mean that in addition to FTL entitlements Sen and Hon get an extra 20kg? That would mean total 60KG allowance in Y?? Too good to be true????
Any help much appreciated!
Cheers!

Hi coinhunter!

Firstly I merged your thread with the general baggage regulation thread to keep all information in one thread.

Now lets turn to your question. No, it is not 60 kg in Y for Sens and HONs. It works the following way:

Piece concept:
FTL: nothing
SEN/HON: 1 additional piece of checked luggage

Weight concept:
FTL: First class luggage allowance which means 40kg in all classes or an additional 20kg in Y an additional 10kg in C and nothing in F.
SEN/HON: an additional 20kg in all classes or 40kg in Y 50 kg in C and 60kg in F

Take care!

Add: *G are allowed an additional piece or 20kg as well.

Just to be sure: The FTL baggage benefit only applies to flights operated by M&M airlines.

Just to let you know what happened on my recent trip to SA with golf clubs.

I was not charged LHR>VIE>FRA>CPT, the nice OS agent just tagged my bags and wished me a nice flight.

Returning CPT>FRA, I was charged by the LH agent, 70 Euros. I pointed out that I was under my 30Kg allowance, agent just shrugged shoulders.

I was not charged for the FRA>LCY segment.

I also took 3 internal flights in SA, with 3 different carriers, all discounted economy, golf clubs accepted without comment by all carriers and carried without charge.

It seems a cheap shot by LH which left a bad taste in the mouth, and as a consequence will think long and hard about using LH again.

I had no issues with any of the flights, on board service fine, all on time etc
