Looking for MR out of YYZ, or BUF

Hello everyone, first time poster here.

I've been lurking for a bit, and seeing all of the postings has finally given me the courage to ask...

If I collect Aeroplan miles, would it make sense to fly my MRs out of Buffalo on United or USAir, even though I'm using aeroplan for my status and mile collection?

Thanks!

Yes. Look up margarita girl and ask her nicely to share some of her past routings She's done quite a lot of MRs from BUF. I was going to join on one but then I lucked out and got a few Australian business trips booked...

Hey DaveTO I'm coming to Toronto in septembre and I also might do a MR within this year from YYZ or BUF. Well I've seen that YYZ is not really a good opportunity to fly out of. BUF is much better pricing. For how much are you aiming?

Thanks for the replies...

I'm looking for somewhere in the range of 28K miles to get E status, and would be looking at MRs that I could do over a weekend. If I could get a couple of good transcontinentals or a Texas routing through Vancouver...

I'll definitely look up Margaritagirl and see if there is anything she'd recommend.

The SYD MR is definitely a good route, lots of miles quick and easy and pretty good fares out of BUF. Loooooong flight though! More bareable if you can convince them to get you into E+ seating.

Rarely is there much out of YYZ directly.. there are some recent ones occassionally though.

DaveTO, I often see BUF-SAN fares around $200 a/i during the off-season.

Perhaps you can do a few runs to sunny Southern California this fall.

So I've done a bit of work on my own, and have found Buffalo to San Diego on Dec 5th for 275CAD all in...Routing through CLT it works out to be about 5200 miles. Any way to improve?

Thanks again for your help...

Hi Dave!

I have never done an MR myself, but doing quite a bit of research at the moment. I don't want to do strict MR's, I'd like to combine it with a weekend trip of some sort if I am gonna do one in the future.
You should be able to do better than the US$275 fare BUF-SAN

I like using the kayak.com weekend search tool, you can find fairly low fares with it.
Here are a few fares I found throughout the last year, that I thought would be MR worthy for me
BUF - CLT - SFO US$ 237 found regurlarly (seen it as low as US$ 176)
BUF - IAD - SEA US$ 220 found regurlarly (seen it as low as US$ 150)
BUF - IAD - LAX US$ 239 found regurlarly
BUF - IAD - SAN US$ 210 found regurlarly

I don't seem to have much luck finding MR's out of YYZ.
However, I found fares to NRT for as low as CAD$ 550 all in in early June on AC.
Also, I had found an AC fare to Buenos Aires for about the same money in spring.

I know that others on this board have much, much better MR runs than the ones I named, but I think it takes alot of time and research to get to those (correct me if I am wrong guys).
I personally haven't figured a good way to add more segments, some members here seem to be really good at that.

One thing I discovered for myself lately is the new ITA matrix software, you can do monthly searches with it, go check it out here http://matrix2.itasoftware.com

Hope I could help a little........

That's a good start, however if you're not looking to fly until December, you could hold off. I'm sure there will be better prices. BUF-SAN is regularly available for around US$210. Also, you might get weather delays in December. Might be better to do something earlier.

Last Sept, I did BUF-CLT-PHL-SAN-IAD-CLT-BUF for US$215 (6702 status miles and 6 segments).

Also check for BUF-SEA while routing through DEN.

UA sale to Denver

United has a sale on right now to go to Denver, sale is good until January 15th, 2010. Go check it out here http://www.united.com/page/article/1...denver_sale_09

With help of the ITA month long search, I found a couple of very creative routings from BUF with fairly good cpm.
Go check it out!

If you jsut want to get miles fast, lots of deasl from YYZ-HKG were around fr months on UA SUB $1000 cnd. Keep and eye in it it might come back.
Keep an eye on the board I think UA might match a CO fare to HKG from IAD and you can just get an award flight to start that run.

There have been good fares from BUF to SFO. It was as low as $78 each way all-in. Higher now for august and later.

Just keep watching otherwise. There have been some very good fares out of buf lately.
