I wish they would give us that fare out of ORD. I did, however, find that if you fly to MSP first and then MSP_DEN-HNL and return HNL-DEN-MSP-ORD it comes out to a very reasonable fare of 431. nothing like 254 but still much better than the usual 550-650 it costs me.

Piss UA off. Fly WN from MDW to LGA, take a cab to EWR, then do it from EWR! :-P

Is there any routing that would permit this if LAX is your starting and ending point. Just spent 30 minutes on ITA and see the IAH and EWR but when I marry LAX I get bumped $200-$300 Higher.. Any courtesy would be appreciated

Well, could your return route through LAX? Could you accidentally forget to board your LAX-ORD/SFO/IAD-EWR flight? Could you wait for a fare war on LAX-EWR and travel on separate tickets?
The fare is published for selected cities where UA wants to attack the competition. Obviously, LAX is not one of those cities.
I'm running different scenarios in terms of stops on the way there and back and this can easily get down to 2.1 or lower cpeqm. GREAT potential and GREAT destination. EWR-ORD-HNL-LAX-SFO-EWR for about 10,600 miles.
$263 a.i. LOVE it, great find way to run some scenarios.

Great Circle routes are quite annoying in a lot of ways. Adding extra connections, with the exception of SFO-LAX or an intra-island flight, seem to really not be worth it in the vast majority of cases. Even HNL-SFO-DEN-EWR is fewer than 25 miles longer than HNL-SFO-EWR. Taking the extra connections in most cases just isn't worth it unless you need the random lines on an OpenFlights map. I did find some interesting routings like HNL-DEN-DSM/TUL/OKC-ORD-EWR, but generally not worth the extra connections for the potential of 1,000 more miles, IMO. In other words, just book the easy/decent connections. There don't seem to be enough extra miles out there to justify tons of tinkering.
I've booked one for February and am trying for another in October where I can redeem a couple CR1s.
Seats are disappearing fast. I checked the availability in April and May. All I see now are on Friday departures. I am trying to snagged 2 more in May for possible DEQM promotion next year!

Sure. In fact, they seem quite easy to redeem. Probably because so many people to/from HNL are tourists. 6 / 6 for me in the last year. The hard part is getting my connecting flight in the states to clear (e.g., SFO - IAD).

I ask because CR1 doesn't pop up for me as an option for upgrading the itinerary. Weird. Maybe a .bomb problem.
