Needless to say, from the East Coast, this fare is incredible. And I'm seeing TONS of availability on UA.

But from EWR, the connections are bad. Most UA flights seem to take 15 1/2 hours to get to HNL. I know many (most?) of you won't mind that, but I'm not going to do that just for a long weekend.

And I already sacrificed my vacation weeks to Delta's European insanity earlier this month. Too many long hauls, not enough time.

The duration of
EWR-UA635-ORD-UA1-HNL is 14 hrs.
HNL-UA74-SFO-UA56-EWR is only 12 hrs. (in Sep)

Dang, still no love for the nation's capital

I did cobble together a IAD-EWR-SFO-HNL (and back) for $491 - about 1/2 what IAD-SFO-HNL is showing...

I can't decide if the extra time is worth my trouble or if I should stick with my award ticket...

Yeah, the best connection is if you can get the 7:30 am EWR-ORD-HNL routing. That's about as good as it gets on this distance. It's also, unfortunately, the hardest one to find at that price. Decent returns are easier to find.

To save "days off," I looked to see if you could fly EWR-SFO/LAX in the evening, and then the 9 am flight from SFO/LAX to HNL. But I can't seem to get it to price with this overnight stop.
