I'm tempted at $276.40 to book MSP-HNL and just drive up there, but I could really use DL/NW miles, so I'll wait to see if there are any matches.

The silly thing is that the UA itin takes you through ORD, which is so much closer.

Perhaps UA is reminding CO to drop $250ish fares to HNL from LAX.
Sadly this year I've seen cheaper fares to the islands from the east coast than from LAX on UA.

Now that it's obvious to the other airlines that this isn't a mistake fare, maybe there will be some retaliatory action this evening.
So, if CO is joining UA, why is this fare war to HNL to the new ally? But who cares, for as long as we are getting cheap fares to Hawaii.

I scored one for Jan 18-21 and the 2nd rez for Jan 22-24th so that it will only require me 1 positioning tix from my home base. Also, I see that seats are starting to fill-up for these flights in January. Now, how about a HNL DO in January?

I am in ORD. If I take the MSP flights, but start from ORD (miss the MSP-ORD) and then drop off at ORD (don't take the ORD-MSP flight), what will happen?

When you miss your MSP-ORD, they will cancel the rest of your itinerary.
You can hop off on the way back though in theory...

If you miss the first portion of your journey (MSP-ORD), your entire trip will be cancelled without any compensation.

I am not quite understanding the fare rules here... Are stopovers allowed? e.g., in SFO or LAX?

Book a positioning flight to MSP. Also, IAH is only a few dollars more for a positioning if you can work out the timing. I did two IAH-HNLs and one MSP-HNL. Mostly all the IAH-HNLs require an overnight in IAH on the way, but the Sheraton at IAH is easily had for 4k points.

On a number of occasions this year, I have found that it can cost less to divert to the "bargain" city first versus flying direct to the islands out of LAX.....eg LAX-IAH-HNL-LAX. I've actually done this twice this year (once to IAD and another to BOS)

Pretty new to FT here....

Any thoughts on how long this fare might last? Interested in buying but have to check some info first and can't purchase till tomorrow or the day after.

I'd be surprised if it lasts that long. To me, this is one of those opportunities to "buy first, ask questions later" given that UA affords its customers a 24-hour buyer's remorse window to cancel even an otherwise non-refundable reservation without penalty.

Just buy it now. UA has a 24-hour free cancellation policy if you buy on united.com. You can also buy on Orbitz which has free cancellation until 10 PM CT the next day.
