Regarding the # of people on the plane who managed to snag that deal, I think that will probably be the case on most of the flights to Menorca leaving from YYC for the next few weeks.
After I booked most of my friends & family on my flight I posted it in a few different places. I'm not quite sure exactly how many jumped in on the deal, but from the rough estimates I've seen, it was a lot
Husband and I were scheduled to make the trek this weekend. Sadly, due to work committments we had to cancel. Called Expedia today and after a very painless 21 minutes, our tix were cancelled and a refund was processed for the full amount to my cc. The Expedia rep was great and kept coming back every 2-3 minutes to say sorry for the delay as she was on hold with Spanair, waiting to talk to an agent.
Thanks again to the OP and bon voyage to all who are getting to spend the upcoming weekends in Spain!

Scheduled to leave on Saturday in 1.5 weeks. All my Spanair code share flights have disappeared from my AC itinerary! All that's showing now is the YYC-YYZ segment which I booked into A class with AC.
On hold with Orbitz at this time.

KVS isn't showing a JK flight from YYZ-MAD or MAD-YYZ anymore. It appears Spanair may have canceled their codeshare with AC for that route. AC is still flying but there I don't see a JK flight number on that plane too (there was one yesterday). Waiting for spanair to open this morning to find out what they're going to do about it... Hopefully they'll just rebook us on the AC flight... *fingers crossed*
Confirmed same here. Partner got a confirmation e-mail from Expedia last night reviewing the itinerary for departure on Thursday and then this morning a cancellation e-mail of 4 of the 6 flights - all of the Spanair codeshares. Expedia tried calling Spanair offices, couldn't reach anyone, suggested we call back in an hour.
I'm scheduled to leave Friday and all my Spanair codeshare flights are gone too
Was looking for news this morning of the codeshare agreement cancelling, a strike at either airline but haven't seen anything of that nature. Hoping that we can get rebooked.
I am currently on a nested ticket in barcelona, scheduled to head back in a couple of days. My codeshare flights have gotten cancelled too... on hold with expedia to see what can be done.... of course they are having the usual problems of actually getting a spanair agent.
I wonder if cancelling a codeshare arrangement (perhaps temporarily) is a tactic to avoid buying these seats from AC? Certainly if they cancelled YYZ-MAD, then they've essentially cancelled their entire codeshare arrangement with AC.
Got in to YYC last night for positioning... scheduled to fly out this afternoon and got the expedia email this morning. On hold with them now.
Expedia was no help on the phone... after being on hold for >1hr and then another 15 minute call, they said that SpanAir has too high of call volume and that I should just go to the airport.
AC agent checked me in to YYZ no problem, but could not print YYZ-MAD... said to get it at YYZ. So it could become an issue at YYZ.
I too got the cancelation email from Expedia today. Checkmytrip is only showing my MAD-MAH segments on the JK PNR. My AC PNR is no longer working on Air Canada or checkmytrip's website.
AC agent at YYZ thought it was odd that YYC didn't print my boarding passes for the entire trip... and then promptly printed my YYZ-MAD-MAH boarding passes. No mention of problems.
Well the good news is that our Party of 5 is now all sorted out (5 different PNRs) to go to Menorca this weekend.
Spanair staff have been advised by Management to book into the lowest fare class possible when rebooking people.
That only took 31 hours to fix.... *aiya*.
My thanks to the Spanair staff for sorting it out for all of us despite bad phone line connections and their systems not cooperating with them. Now hoping that the flights go well...
