If people are looking to change, it's probably a good idea to call the Spain # (use Skype) since I just got off the phone with the North America #... and they won't move. Either accept the alternative flight (they gave me two options, both with 20+ hour layovers in Madrid) or take a refund. No changes in date, no changes in destination.

I wasn't really interested in arguing to a supervisor, but others may have more luck switching to a different destination.

I can't say I'm surprised that JK aren't interested in giving alternative destinations given we only paid $96 for the tickets. Fortunately I'm flying back on the 14th Sept the day before the schedule change.

I'm guessing they aren't obligated to offer alternative destinations but would be interested if someone has the cohones to argue the toss with them and get re-accommodated somewhere else.

I wasn't sure if it was the "word from on high" that no changes were acceptable, or just because I got someone on a bad day. The phone conversation was about 3 minutes long... and was before dropping my son off at daycare, so I wasn't really in the mood to argue. Someone else can try and see if they get anywhere.

I might try again some other time with a supervisor to see if I can finagle a destination change... I didn't try to discuss Madrid as the change, though. Perhaps someone else will have better luck.

Incidentally the North American phone # hours are horrible - 9-5 M-F EST only, and even then they "opened" 10 minutes late today, which is why calling Spain might be better, the hours are far undoubtedly far better, and they've probably got far more leeway in changing the ticket than the NA office.

My return flight was also affected by the sched change, so I called the NA number and was told that the only option was to do MAH-MAD the day before and then MAD-YYZ-YYC the next day, with an overnight in MAD.

She said that it would be impossible to change the destination, origin, or routing because of the price I paid. She said that under normal circumstances they would allow these changes, but because of the price I paid for this fare, they would not.

I tried to find out if the ability to change the destination/origin/routing due to a schedule change was outlined in their tariffs or some other document and if that document also indicated that when fares dropped below a specific price the rules would not apply. Of course, she was not interested in answering that question!

I would love to be rerouted through FRA, as was offered to someone else, but I'm not sure if it is worth calling the number in Spain to see if I get different results...

I finally rec'd an e-mail from Expedia regarding the sched change and called them. They offered to book me on the MAH-MAD flight the day before and provide a $100 coupon to use towards booking a hotel in MAD. I accepted their offer of course :-)

Sweet!
The Hilton Madrid Airport Hotel is quite nice (and has a free suttle) - FYI.

Just got off the phone. Ended up canceling mine as I was not about to spend an extra day in transit just to get home.

The only viable option that I was presented with was MAH-BCN on JK, BCN-LHR on IB, LHR-YYZ on BA, and then YYZ-YYC on AC.

Edit: maybe someone can convince JK to switch to a different destination? MAD/BCN/PMI or the coast?
No idea where you see that but I have my res on sunday the 27th SEP at 11:20 PM and EF shows this flight as available

Looks like only saturdays and mondays are effected

I was able to cancel my MAD-MAH-MAD segments. Since I was only spending one night in MAH, it was impossible to do anything else.

Still waiting to see if Orbitz will match Expedia's offer of a $100 room credit (like kdywg got), but I'm not holding my breath.

Seems like I picked the wrong day for travelling

Anyhow considering my upcoming move and I made arrangements from LAX to YYC already I dont know if it's still economical to go on this trip. I would need new tickets from YVR to YYC and considering whats on the market right now I might be better off just getting a new ticket to a more desirable destination as in Asia

You'll have to wait until September before the trip reports start to come in.

I rebooked today directly through Spanair (using their main number rather than the North American number). I was offered several options, and decided to spend an afternoon/overnight in Madrid. Spanair offered me a hotel room in Madrid for the night (without me even asking!), as well as letting me choose which time I wished to fly to Madrid on Sunday. I would also recommend calling Spanair directly, rather than going through Expedia/North American Spanair line, as I have heard feedback that they are more inflexible.

Just got this from Travelocity:

Quote:
Flight not available for your 9/21/2009 trip.
Please call us immediately regarding your flight reservations.

We have learned that the airline did not confirm the flights you requested. Unfortunately, this means that we are not currently holding air reservations for your trip to Menorca.

Your immediate action is required. Please call Travelocity's Customer Support Center right away to review your available options and to confirm a new flight schedule for this trip.

You must call us back within 48 hours or we may not be able to honor your original booking price.
Anyone else? I didn't get this for the bookings made through Orbitz, and its the exact same itinerary.

Interesting... I booked with Expedia so checked my booking and got this message:

Your Request Cannot Be Completed
The status of your flight has changed. Please call us at 1-800-EXPEDIA (1-800-397-3342) or 1-404-728-8787.

When I clicked through I could not see any change, so I accessed my booking via checkmytrip.com (and spanair.com) and sure enough, the Toronto-Mardid flight has been dropped.

Looked on ac.com and the direct overnight flight is now not showing on my travel date (9/23). Also poked around a few days either side and found that the 9/21 is not showing either.

Wonder what's up?

Maybe this change can be used to better my dates???
