Transiting through CDG is really not as bad as people here make it to be. In your case, you actually consciously made it more complicated by going from 2E to 2C and then to 1.
We all have been going to 2C because that's where the secret little cave (Air France Arrivals Lounge) is! Nice showers, tasty chocolate croissants, and Fauchon tea...
However, I guess I'm one of the few who just walked the whole thing - other than the little shuttle train to Terminal 1, I think the bus is pretty unnecessary. After a long flight and before an even longer one, the walk between terminals (through where the train station is) was actually not too bad at all and a relaxing way to kill some time. I can't imagine the bus is that fast or frequent, I suspect I might have taken 5-10 minutes longer in total.
CDG isn't the worst ever - hey, at least there IS an arrivals lounge (vs. JFK) but it isn't anywhere near the best either...

Yes, of course, I know that. I am only saying that precisely by choosing to NOT got straight to T1, but pass through T2C first, one is consciously making their transfer more complex

As one who has transitted CDG many times, I would agree with mikeyyz here - walking from 2E to the arrivals lounge in 2C is a lot easier than the bus, and probably faster. It also gives you the chance to check out the architecture of the TGV station along the way.

a question for those who have successfully changed their return date:
My ticket stock is 006 purchased on xp. Called DL they said I have to call xp for changes. Called xp they said they could make a change, but since the same exact flights aren't coming up on the new date, they can't do the change. When they input DPS-JFK for the return, obviously the option of going through HKG and CDG does not come up. I asked if they could specifically request it, but they said no. How did you guys get the date change?

Have you already flown the outbound portion of the trip? If not, then DL is rightly pointing you to XP. Try calling back, talking to a different agent. Also, would you be flexible on your route for the inbound?

I haven't flown the outbound yet. I am flexible with the inbound route. You think they could just change the entire ticket?

If you haven't flown the outbound, you are not entitled to make changes without a reprice. Expect to pay a total of about 10x what you actually paid. Or live with the outbound.

The outbound is fine. No desire to change that. Just want to change the return. Even just changing the return will result in a reprice if the outbound hasn't been flown yet?
Does it also imply that if the outbound has been flown, the inbound can be changed without a reprice?

Yes. Please read this thread. You may only be able to make changes to the inbound (without any reprice) AFTER you have flown the outbound.

I haven't flown yet, but I can see that we might have some glitches getting mileage to post. The itinerary is viewable on DL.com, but it says I haven't entered my SM number. On speedy, my DL, AA, and TG numbers are all showing. I think AF acknowledged having my DL SM number when I called for seat assignments. So who knows. I always save boarding passes. Definitely taking care to save them for this trip.
How long is it taking for the AF segments to post to a DL account?
It's been 2+ weeks for me and nothing.
I left my AF flights blank and credited the rest to * and when I got back I used DL Request Mileage Credit online and filled out the online request with DL as the operating airline (AF metal) and DL flight numbers. In three days the miles posted and received an email from DL that they had posted.
