My nephew is working out the details with XP on Monday and once I get an update, I will post.
On my last phone call with DL, they basically said they would not honor the ticket due to the fare error, despite the fact that his rez was confirmed and he got a ticket number. They have supposedly returned the money to XP and asked that he contact XP for solution.
There are still many unanswered questions, so let's see how the call with XP on Monday pans out.
Wow. If DL tries to pull a "fare error" defense they are going to be in for a very messy battle.
If there are any DL lurkers observing this thread: do yourself a favor and stop while you are ahead: honor the fares. We will prevail in the end.
If they're successful, then obviously DL is unable to flag all instances of this fare. I still need to find out the AF PNR number (as I recommend everyone do), so that you can OLCI on airfrance.us. That's what I did back in May, but for some reason I can't pull up my reservation on airfrance.us this time by ticket number.
Excellent recommendation. How can one get the AF PNR? I too tried my etkt # at airfrance.us and got nothing.

The charge on the credit card came from XP, not DL.

Until you see a credit on your credit card, DL still has your money.
The mystery to me is: why did DL sent him to JFK the 2nd time?

I am confused I have never seen a ticket charged directly by Expedia -- I've always had it be charged by the airline of which its stock is printed on; the fee when they had them would be a seperate Expedia fee. Also in packages it has always been broken up.

That's odd. My charge came from Delta, just the same as if I had purchased a ticket at delta.com. In fact, heck, I remember kicking myself for putting it on my USAA MC instead of my DL Amex which caused me to miss out on 4000 RDM.

Then, your friend has a very unique situation.
Travel agents don't normally charge clients unless they act as resellers, such as tour packages. Over the years, I have purchased multiple tickets from XP, Travelocity, Orbitz as well as other online and offline agencies. I have never been charged by the agency. It is always the airlines who charges my credit card.
There are legal implications. If XP did charge your friend, his contract is with XP, not DL. DL has no obligation to him at all. It is XP who needs to decide how to refund or re-route him. This is very unusual. Did he purchase add-on hotels/cars and made it a package?
Many times XP directly charged my CC (and not just their fee but the entire ticket). I also checked my account online 2 min ago to confirm this. My last 2 purchases on XP (1 LX ticket PRG-IST and another JJ MXP-GRU) Charged by: EXPEDIA INC
Edit: In this particular case I booked my ticket through EB and the charge came from DL.
Oops, sorry to create such confusion. I just looked at the statement again and the charges came from XP for CAN$9.00 (no idea what this was for) and the fare charge came from DELTA AIR Montreal.

For my trip, DL was useless in securing seat assignments on the DL-coded, AF-operated segments. A call to AF, on the other hand, generated seat assignments on those flights.

You can get your AF PNR, by going to AF's website, following the "Book online/Flight status" drop-drown menu and clicking on "Your reservations," and entering your 13-digit ticket number and last name underneath the "Access your reservation using your ticket number" field. Alternatively, you can call AF, inform the telephone agent which flight you are on and provide him or her with your last name, and ask for your reference number.

Yes, that's normal. This is what other posters are saying: DL charges for the ticket and XP charges their fee.

Interesting. My experience was quite the opposite.
Months ago I selected seats for the AF segments via the Delta site, no problem. They still show via my ticket number on Delta site.
However, my 006- prefix ticket number was not accepted on the AF site at that time, nor today.
And...fwiw... Expedia sent me an update on my flights ( just change in times ) last Friday. Didn't say boo about anything else.
Also, a check of Orbitz today would indicate Delta would have a hard time saying that the fare was an obvious error... since it still falls within the normal expected percentage distribution of many historical pricings for many routes!

I agree -- it was 2400 r/t on Malaysia Airlines for some dates in September in Business Class. I think the idea that it will be difficult to cancel all the tickets...

My flight is starting Nov 18/19 I think or in that range...
"If they're not successful, then I am not going to position myself to JFK to find myself and my wife stranded three days before Thanksgiving. JFK in late November will not compare to Bali and Singapore!! Then it'll be time to go hunting for that next premium fare to Asia although it's slim pickings out there with price increases all across the board."
