Faretracking tools/websites seem to be on the rise. Yapta.com, launched today, joins Farecast.com and FareCompare.com, but seems to be quite different and potentially revolutionary.
Here is a blurb of the site from TechCrunch:
"Yapta is very different from other travel sites. It is not hooked up directly to airlines’ systems (as Expedia and Oribitz are), nor is it essentially a search engine for low fares like Farecast. Instead, they’re using some of the ideas behind del.icio.us and bookmarking to create a potentially compelling new way for people to search for cheap flights. The core of the Yapta service is a browser bookmarklet or addon that lets users “bookmark” fares that they find on major travel sites. At launch, ten airline and travel sites will be supported, many more will be added over time. See a flight you are interested in and bookmark it. The flight and fare information is then stored in your account at Yapta."
One cool feature I saw with this tool is that you can tag your itins and it will keep track of the price for the itin until the date of your departure and let you know if the fare drops so you can reprice your itin.
Anyone else have experience with this site?
Just realized that it is Yapta rather than Yapata as I mistyped in the title.
Thanks for the notice. I don't have anything scheduled for the rest of the year except international travel. Seems like Yapta isn't offering its services for that yet. At least I assume so because it won't let me tag it on expedia.

Thanks for sharing this... i think it's a pretty interesting tool.
I downloaded it and seems to be working fine with a couple of glitches.
For all AA flyers using aa.com, you would have to 'tag' your itinerary after you select it, in the 'book flights' page, where AA prices it out with taxes and fees. Otherwise, yapta will tag your itinerary with no fare. At least that's what happened to me this morning.

As a concept I think is great.
Thanks for the tip. Seems like a good concept to me, too.
I noticed that the home page has a form where you put in your confirmation code and last name. How safe is it to share this kind of information with a third party?
I have been trying it out and I noticed that you cannot tag the same flight to check different fares. For example, if I wanted to check the cost of an "H" fare on United as opposed to a "W" or a "V" fare (for upgrading with miles or a SWU), it will not be able to diffentiate even if you tag the itinerary 2 separate times.
I tried tagging my AA itinerary (AA issued but involves AA, RJ, and AY flights). I assume "confirmation number" means "record locator" in AA lingo? Anyway, Yapta couldn't find my flight. Will try again.
