I did some extensive searching, and this thread seems to be the best place to ask...I've read many posts, but guess I just need to truly 'hear' it about my case.

I'm flying ORD-LHR-ORD with a 3-hour turn at LHR. The fare isn't all that special, but I have expiring vouchers and 2 SWUs that expire at the end of January and are burning a hole in my pocket (I am buying an upgradable fare and there is confirmable upgrade space on my flights)...

Anyway, I've never done an international MR before, seems as if everything is okay with doing it, right?

Will I get much flack from the Customs/Immigration agents on either side?

I don't plan on leaving the secure area unless I have to...I just plan on retreating to the lounge.

Can I get my boarding passes all in advance? What about these 'stamps' on the BPs that I read about?

I've never been to LHR before and am quite unfamiliar with the place.

Thanks for any input!

I had just the question to ask too - info on a "turn" at LHR (I was thinking of doing FRA-LHR-FRA)...I guess it would depend on your carrier, as to whether they and/or the UK Customs/Immigration require everyone to be "corralled" into immigration.

I gather that BA is set up for transit pax, so their terminal at LHR should be trouble-free...

I did a MR this weekend to Belize. I tell customs agent in BZE I will there less than 3 hours, doing it for miles and to have lunch in Belize. She justs laughs and says have a good lunch!

The best advise as many FTs have stated is to be totally honest. Many custom officers know about MRs and your are not doing anything wrong.

At LHR there is no need to clear immigration to do a international turnaround. Just follow the signs for transit or flight connection centre, pass through security, and make your way to transfer desk or lounge to get your onward boarding pass if you do not already have it.

This assumes you have no checked bags tagged to LHR.

Anyone do a turnaround in KEF?

Kiwi Flyer?

Edited to Add: Or I guess I could do one, if I'm not too far gone after 4 sectors to KEF and then 2 more out...

Thanks Kiwi Flyer!

I just checked out the airport's website - very small place, and due to having interconnects as KEF as a hub, I would think that transit would most definitely be possible...anyone can confirm this?

IIRC Icelandair have banks of flights which cater for connections between europe and north america. It is a fairly small airport.

Regarding Boarding Passes: You did not indicate what airline you are flying. I know that AA will issue a return Boarding Pass if you check in less than 24 hours before the return flight. Getting it when you check in for the OHR-LHR will make things far easier.

Again, and this only applies for Terminal 3 (AA, VS) once you deplane follow the signs to "Flight Connection Center". They will rescreen you for security and dump you back into the departure (secure) area. If you have Sapphire status on One-World (AA-PLT) you can relax in any of the Oneworld lounges (most people prefer CX or JL). JL, from experience, will want to see both your BP and AA-PLT card.

Hope this helps

anyone done a turn at JAX?
Im looking at doing an MR, and almost all the itins have the same 30 minute window, which is seeming a bit small

From post 1
As this thread in now large Kiwiflyer has made an index in post 258 of links to the relevant posts for quick reference, sorted by airport code. As the forum software has changed some old links no longer work.

This summary will be updated from time to time.

If you are unsure of the airport code please use the FT airport code lookup.

JAX is not on the summary as yet. Let us know how it goes

The links in the index should still work fine. I'll do an update at some stage for the new turnarounds and transits posted since the last update, but it won't be today.

I can't say for certain, but it is almost a certainty that the same aircraft that brought you to JAX will take you back (you can confirm by looking at incoming flights and its outgoing pair and seeing if they use the same gate). If that is the case then you should be fine (just make sure that you have your return boarding pass before you board the incoming JAX flight. I've done several MR 25-30 minutes MR flips....always without a problem.
