Any idea how much taxi costs from Hyatt to airport at that time?
unknown as i usually book a hotel car
from where i was staying to the airport was 1600 pesos r/t about $36 USD
the advantage is that its a flat rate and a unmarked car
be careful with taxis some will use the meter the majority will negotiate with you
the unscrupulous ones will quote you a price and then try to weasel more at the airport
unless you feel comfortable with negotiating insist on the meter

Missed my LA flight and re-booked by understanding Aangels, who were very familiar with the concept of a MR.
This is a little frightening experience. I'd rather go through immigration than be drilled by customs for no reason.

Anyone been having same experience with PTY turnarounds?

Longtime lurker, first post..any recent experiences with turnaround in DOH? My upcoming December 5th MR for MP gold is as follows:

FRI 6:30PM IAD-AMS-FRA-DOH SAT 9:10 PM
SUN 2:20AM DOH-FRA-IAD SUN 2:35PM

AMS-FRA-DOH and DOH-FRA are LH, others UA.

With a 3.x hour turnaround at DOH, should I proceed to transit area or go through customs. Fare was $681 if you care. Appreciate any info, thanks !

Is 2h50m enough time to do a turn-around in Shanghai (PVG) - arriving from ORD on AA and departing on AA to DFW? I believe that I will have to clear customs and immigration (and can clear without a visa since I have an onward ticket). Any recent experiences?

Looks like you have 5 hours at DOH. While you can transit without clearing immigration, you have enough time to go through immigration if you want to do anything landside.

TWOV (transit without visa) does not apply to you because you are returning to the same country rather than flying onward to a third country. You better get a visa.

As for 2h50m, that is doable but a bit tight. It can easily take over an hour to clear immigration and customs. Add in the notorious congestion which means your flight could be quite late arriving and you may not have much time to check in before the departing flight closes.

Hi everyone,

I am discovering this mileage run thing and I'm so impressed. I was watching Anthony Bourdain yesterday and being a total foodie I was wondering if someone has ever tried to combine a mileage run with food, as I would call it a "food run". I would like to go to 6 to 8 different cities in asia, stay 2 or 3 days in each, experience the street food there and return after 6/8*2 or 3 days to my home in the US. I would accumulate many miles and have an amazing food experience as well. So far i've been playing with ITA and found itineraries on 6 cities for about $2500. I'm sure I can find better, but I'm wondering if anyone has anyone done that before?

This is good to know. Would it work to arrive in HKG from the U.S., then take a short flight to PVG and in the same day return from PVG to the U.S.?

I'm not sure that China would consider HKG a separate country!

But something like US-Japan-China-US or vv or US-South Korea-China-US or vv would be okay for China transits (at those airports that permit TWOV).

Best to stay in the airport.

In the main terminal, there's:
* Qdoba (tex mex fast food)
* Italian (slightly slower than fast food)
* Wendy's (I never go)
* Chinese fast food (never go)
* Ivar's Seafood (only ordered fish 'n chips)

Sofia Transit

Hi Everyone,

I am booked on Qatar Airways from Sofia to Doha which departs at 14:30.

I will be flying into Sofia from the UK and have a few options.

- BA from LHR arriving at 13:25.
- Easyjet from MAN arriving at 12:25.
- Easyjet from LGW arriving at 11:25.

Ideally I would like to take the BA flight, but would that leave enough time to transit through the airport onto the QR flight? I will have no checked luggage with me.

Thanks

I did this kind of connection regularly - until the day it all went wrong. Now I wouldn't dream of attempting a one-hour, unprotected, connection: I like fat buffer times.

So the answer is BA will probably work. If it doesn't, QR could play ball; but you might well be shafted. If you want to fly BA, go the evening before; otherwise it's Gatwick, Easyjet and crossed fingers.

AA Platinum Challenge Run:

BA DFW-LHR Prem Econ.
A member here was kind enough to guest me in to the First Class lounge in T5 for a shower.
BA LHR-DXB. Prem Econ
8,150 miles/12,225 EQP's. Flights posted within 3 days.
Both flights on the old tired 747's. Not very nice.

CX Prem Econ DXB-JFK
Talked my way into BA lounge explaining I was already Platinum with the challenge and the BA flights (hadn't posted yet).
No such luck in HKG as the autobots were on retention overload.
DXB-HKG posted almost immediately. Still waiting on HKG-JFK (11 days now).
Bulkhead of Prem Econ only way to survive. Better on the A330 than the 777 with the new config (i.e. the one with a dedicated prem Econ lav in front of row 32 on right side). Very comfortable even with the limited recline.

No problem with same story at JFK Admirals club to shower after HKG flight.

Overall 3 out of 4 lounge entry success rate without Platinum officially posting yet.

Best (and best price) food in HKG is where everyone lines up before the 6a opening.
