MR to Canada question

So, I am doing my first MR, thanks to reduced travel and an expiring credit.
Background: I used to travel to Canada quite often for work. Always said I was there for internal meetings, so that I would not get hassled. But I have not been there in over a year.
MR: Get in to Montreal on a Friday afternoon and depart on Saturday am. When they ask, it will be for leisure, but an awfully short time period.

Do I even begin to try and explain? Will they care?
I know it all depends on who you get going through immigration. I have seen people grilled, when I was basically waved through without any questions.

The old "business or leisure" routine doesn't really work - that's just in the movies.

When an agent asks what you're doing you just tell them straight up - "I am staying overnight at xxx hotel and leaving on flight tomorrow morning."

CBSA agents are paid not to have a sense of humor so don't try and finesse the situation - just give them the facts. I'm sure they've seen and heard everything.

6.5 hrs in SIN

I remember someone posting about their experience staying at SIN airport from midnight till 7 AM. Read this over last month. Can't for the life of me find it via search though. Would have thought was in the min transit thread which even has an index. Not there.

Anyway, am debating whether to do EWR-NRT-SIN-NRT-IAH-EWR on UA (ANA for NRT-SIN leg) in coach. Spending that much time in coach scares me, but 21,000 miles at 4.3 CPM is attractive. Would take me 2-3 separate domestic MRs to get similar mileage.

So, wondering what others felt doing it and whether they were 'in pain' for days after and wished they had never done it...

I've spent the night at SIN before. Very doable whether you decide to stay airside or go thru customs and visit the country. Food is my recommendation to kill time, should be a bunch of hawkers open even after midnight, both at the airport and outside (outside is obviously better)

Would land at 1240 am and leave at 7. Probably would want to get rest since would have come off lot of flying with lot more coming up...

Thinking of doing a turnaround from HKG. I'll be there for about 6hrs or so... any trouble to be expected from PP control?? When I was doing ORD-YYZ-LAX runs, Canadian PP control loved to give me 3rd degree.

I did 7 trips to canada earlier this year for MRs. 5/7 were same day turnarounds from YYZ.

CBSA Officer: What's your purpose for visiting Canada?
Me: Transit
CBSA Officer: Where are you going?
Me: LA
CBSA: Huh... what... why? That's crazy.
Me: Yes. I wanted extra miles.

Another day...

CBSA Officer: Why are you in Canada?
Me: Transit to LA.
CBSA Officer: Haha.. you guys! Leaving airport?
Me **smiling**: Nope. See you next week.

YMMV.

Turnaround in MNL with overnight in Guam

Found interesting MR to Manila on UA for late Oct ($899; 20,247 miles; 4.4 CPM). Has overnight in Guam but I have an expiring Hyatt certificate and Hyatt Regency is Cat 4 so that works. Then have 14 day time hours in MNL (9 am - 11 am).

Few questions: anyone done overnight in Guam on a run? Any advice? Are there cheap day hotels in MNL to drop off bags and refresh? Any visa issues going in and out on same day?

UA Turnaround BOS

Looking at a mileage run SFO > BOS. Ideally will take the red eye which arrives at 7:11AM. Next flight back is at 8AM. Anyone experienced success (or failure) with that short a turnaround at BOS?

All of the UA flights are in the same terminal now and very close so, unless delayed, you should have plenty of time. If you have club access, you should have enough time to even stop in the UA Club.

Quick turnaround at PUJ

Planning to do a mileage run at PUJ (Punta Cana) with 1:18 turnaround. Should this be enough time to go through immigration, customs, check in, get through security, and make it back on the same plane? The arrival into PUJ is 2:03 pm.

SFO-BOS-SFO is one of my favorite Mileage Runs. I've done this exact schedule many times and have never missed a return flight. Usually the gates are right next door to each other. Unless there is a lengthy delay on your inbound you should be fine. Worst case scenario there are many other SFO flights throughout the day leaving every couple of hours.

probably not before you get to the immigration booths one must stop at the tourist card booth and purchase one, lines can be notoriously slow in the DR, then after check in and security one must pass outbound immigration

you are probably better off spending the extra day in manila rather than the overnight in guam as the hyatt is a $20 taxi ride each way, look at the jfk-lax-hnl-gum-mnl routing which gets you in at 9pmish and leaves the next day at 11pm, if your into WWII history you can can take the day trip to Corregidor Island which gets back into Manila with plenty of time to make your flight back
