Always try to use the US version of expedia/orbitz, if you can, especially on weekend bookings, the cancellation window is always until Monday 11:59pm.

This is fine also as one way, especially if you put the stopover at AKL on the outbound. I also did MEL/SYD as an open jaw to mix it up, going twice to the same city is boring...

No.

And calling is unlikely to force it through. Either you'll get lucky and get the booking or you won't. But calling right now probably won't help your case.

Feasible for sure. You clear security but not immigration, so overall pretty easy.

No. Do yourself a favor, only call after you receive your eticket and after fare died. The latter had happened but not the former. You still have a shot if you don't call.

Lasted 2.5 hours...Just one of this is enough for renewing *A Gold for next year...The positioning would be a pain though...I saw this 90 minutes in, unfortunately didn't have enough time to even think about nesting a second one in, even if I wanted to...

I am surprised you put the RAR stopovers but no time there? Are these on AKL metal, lie flat or recliners?

So true. You're trying to think and make coherent decision all the while knowing the plug could be pulled at any minute. Whew, need a shower now. I just looked at the calendar and started booking. I'll probably fly 3 of them and at 200% for Z class, that'd be enough to dump UA and get Miles and More SEN status, which will let me access LX First award seats.
